Service that Makes a Difference
Creating, Engaging, and Sustaining Community from the Inside Out
In this workshop, we will focus on ways that educators can build, engage, and sustain community in their classrooms and schools and enhance connections between the local community and schools. This session will equip educator with strategies for learning about the backgrounds, interests, and needs of the students, families, and communities as a starting point for building healthy relationships that enrich students’ educational experiences and improve the educational environment for all parties involved. Participants will also hear from a panel of community engaged individuals on their service work and ways to continue to serve the holistic needs of children and youth through community-school partnerships. This professional development course is the fourth workshop in a series of annual workshops on how to strengthen educators’ knowledge of how to effectively work across differences to create environments that are conducive to learning and where student achievement is maximized.
This professional development workshop will be divided into three parts.
