What's New in Room 182

Mrs. Peters' 3rd Grade * January 29, 2016

Read-A-Thon SUCCESS!

Congratulations to our 3rd graders for showing perseverance and team work as we achieved our Read-A-Thon goals! We all enjoyed a well-deserved assembly this afternoon to celebrate!

IPad Update

I just want to repeat my thanks from earlier this week for your support, patience, and example of responsibility as students brought their iPads home for the first time EVER (AND all successfully returned them the next day!)!

A few notes:

  • For now, I request that they split their time between their weekly prefix on Spelling City (app or website) and multiplication fact fluency on either MobyMax or IXL on Tuesday nights.
  • Please let me know if you need a new copy of your student's log-ins for the apps/sites we require.
  • You will need to connect to home or a public wi-fi server. (EPS' i-Learn server will not reach your home!)
  • You are welcome to charge the iPad up at night, if you have the appropriate charger at home. iPads will come home with plenty of power for the night's activities, however.

THANK YOU, Mrs. Kaan!

Today Evie's mom surprised us with some of her favorite texts from 3rd grade... Shel Silverstein poems! It was fun for us all to hear how poetry and creative writing really inspired her love of reading and learning. We're inspired now, too!

Remember, we still have MANY slots open for 2016, so if this sounds like an experience you (or someone special to your 3rd grader) would like to have, check out more information and a sign-up page here. Hope to see you soon!!

Do you save Box Tops?

Forest Hills 6th grade students are on a mission to collect Box Tops (and Labels for Education) as their service to our school. Did you know each box top is worth a dime? Please help by sending in as many as you can by Friday, February 5th!

Focus on the Curriculum

ELA

  • Weekly Prefix: ...
SURPRISE! We're giving 3rd graders a week off from learning a NEW prefix, but that doesn't mean they can't practice all of the ones from the first half of the year! All of the lists are still accessible in their Spelling City accounts, so try to practice ones that were a little tricky. Any activity can be completed for extra practice.

  • Setting

Students practice visualizing regularly in their reading, so we're going to dig a little deeper into the setting of a story. Click here or here for a little review you can practice and apply to nightly reading!

Math

  • Chapter 8: Fractions

Students have all done an amazing job learning and applying fractions so far! We will continue our learning with fractions on a number line and fractions of a set this week. Remember, there are so many fun ways to practice fractions in our daily lives (like cooking!). Enjoy!

Also... PLEASE continue to reinforce multiplication and division skills however you can at home. IXL, MobyMax, or www.multiplication.com are all phenomenal tools to help your student excel!

Homework will be "Weekly Review #15", sent home Tuesday and due Friday.
