North Elementary Newsletter

April 2021

Message from the Principal

As we head into 4th quarter, we have several items I would like to bring to your attention! But first, I would like to thank Janna Clifton, Amy Weber, Lora Schumer, Jessica Kinder, Jessica Keen, Danielle Kirchhoff, and other members of our PTO that made our Bingo Night possible. A lot of hard work went into the event and proceeds will go towards our face to face Play Day!

We would like to spread the word to families that kindergarten enrollment is open. Having accurate enrollment numbers early helps us make staffing decisions. So, if you know of a family that has a school age child, please pass this information along to them and have them call the office at 243-9590. Please see the link for more information:

Additionally, our incoming kindergarten-4th grade students have the opportunity to enroll in FREE ALL DAY summer school hosted at North Elementary June 2-22. We are offering FREE breakfast and lunch to all students. We would love to have everyone sign up and attend! Please see the link for more information:

Online Registration

We have opened online enrollment for the 21-22 school year. Therefore, parents can now go in and update all of the online forms.

Read A Thon

Congrats North! Our school read a total of 48,034 minutes! That’s a lot of great reading! We have also raised $4,940!! That’s amazing! We will use the money raised for purchasing more books for the summer reading program and other literacy needs for our school.

Every student that created a Read-a-Thon page earned a bookmark or piece of candy.

The class that raised the most was Mrs. Rottler's 1st grade class and they enjoyed a pizza party.

The top two classes that read the most minutes were Mrs. Newman's 3rd grade class and Mrs. Hatheway's Kindergarten class. They both earned a snack and extra recess.

We also had our reading BINGO drawings. One student from every class was drawn and chose a book and snack. Three bigger drawings were made and prizes included lego sets and an electronic device.

Thank you for all your participation and help for our school! Keep on reading!

3rd and 4th Grade MAP Testing May 10-13

During testing, it is very important for your child to be here. Please don't schedule doctor or dental appointments that will take your child out of school during test time. It is important that your child get plenty of rest and eat a good breakfast in order for them to do their best.

Notice from our Nurse

Please do not send your students to school wearing flip flops. They break easily and are not sturdy enough, which increases the likelihood of injury. Although the warmer weather means sandals are in season, everyone is safer at school in sturdier shoes.

Thank you,

Nurse Kimber

Art Remarks

Happy April, North Families!

Our young artists are hard at work producing springtime works of art, using watercolor, clay, and more! We are focusing on cherry blossoms, dandelions, and other themes of nature. This year has gone by extremely fast, so I’m excited to tie in the last of our projects with these wonderful students!

Artfully Yours,

Miss Hopson

Music Notes

Happy Jazz Appreciation. Our next set of concerts are slated to be presented live at North Elementary May 18th. 3rd grade will perform Treasure Island, 4th grade is doing an end of the year concert and Kindergarten will present, the Day in the Life of a Young Musicial. More information on times will be sent through a letter after our Spring Break. Let's rock out the next few months by making it our best.

Musically yours,

Joseph Moore

"Check Out" What's Going on in the Library

It has been a great month in the library. Coding, Makerspace, Escape Boxes and of course lots of reading has made March fly by. This is the first year at North Elementary that we have had 2 students to read all of the Mark Twain Books. Avery Whitticre and Audrey Maevers have read all 12 of the Mark Twain books, took tests over each book and passed with a perfect score. I am so proud of these girls.

The Buy One Get One (BOGO) book fair will be April 26-April 30th. More information to follow.

Stay "On Track" With Physical Education

In PE this April we will begin with some jump roping, and hopefully the weather will allow us to play some fun outdoor games and prepare for play day at the end of the year. The last couple of months should be fun as we wind down the school year!
