Bobcat Bulletin
Week of October 4th
From the Desk of Principal Schmid
I feel grateful each day to have the opportunity to be surrounded by the Brookdale community and the amazing students and staff we have here. Getting to see them in action is something I do not take for granted; our students and Dream Team staff are truly awesome! I wish my own children had the opportunity to be a part of the magic happening inside the walls of Brookdale!
Mrs. Stepper and I have had the great honor of getting to have many students down in the past weeks awarding Positive Office Referrals. Some of these referrals were for our nominations for our Bobcat Character Trait of the Month: Adaptability. Getting to see the things written about your children brought us great joy. These students will be put into a lottery to attend our Bobcat Trait Breakfast at the end of the quarter or lunch with me if they are not able to attend the breakfast. Parents/guardians of students who are chosen in the lottery will be notified.
Students who earn a Positive Office Referral are not just doing something once, they are consistently demonstrating one of our pillars of safety, responsibility, respect, kindness, or our character trait of the month. That is something as a parent/guardian to be very proud of them for! We know there are many students who do the right thing every day and may not always get "caught" doing it through our Positive Office Referral system; that is evidence by our ever growing aquarium of PAWS! PAWS are something they earn anytime they are caught doing something above and beyond by a staff member. We are working our way towards our next all school reward!
This week our interventions kicked off and teachers have been working tirelessly setting up small groups for all of their students and ways to track their progress; meeting them where they are to grow them to their greatest potential! You will receive your child's fall benchmarking scores on ParentVUE tentatively scheduled by the district for October 22nd. If you have any questions about your child's instructional needs, don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher; you are partners in your child's educational journey!
As always, thank you for your continued support. I reminded often that it takes a village to raise a child, and we are honored you have chosen Brookdale to be a part of your child's village! It's a great place to be!
Thank you,
Mrs. Keeley Schmid
Brookdale's Proud Principal

Tik Tok Challenges
At this time we have not had instances of this behavior (below) at Brookdale but the following is being shared with all parents in District 204 as a point of information. We appreciate your support.
We have been made aware that there are more Tik Tok challenges circulating around challenges at school. September’s Tik Tok challenge was all about students vandalizing bathrooms and destroying school property. October’s new challenge is termed “smack a staff member on the backside.” Police are warning students these viral TikTok’s are much more than just challenges. They are criminal offenses as some of these challenges are bordering on assault.
Please speak with your student about the serious nature of these challenges and help educate them that these are not appropriate for school. Any student who chooses to carry out any of these challenges at school will be subject to school and police consequences. If your child has any information on these occurrences at school, please encourage them to speak to me or another trusted adult at school.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter!
Arrival/Dismissal
Overall, they were very impressed with how 500 students are safety dismissed and how efficient the process is--Go, Brookdale Community! They really loved our safety patrol leaders! However, an area of improvement is the illegal parking on Redfield, causing congestion and delaying our busses in getting into pick up students.
As a result, I am sharing (below) the city of Naperville's parking regulations which can also be found here under "Traffic Control Plans". The Naperville Police will start issuing citations for illegal parking. We also appreciate your prompt attention to this to ensure a smooth and efficient arrival/dismissal process for our students.
Blue= No parking during arrival/dismissal times.
Yellow= No parking, stopping, or standing during arrival/dismissal times.
Red= No parking, stopping, or standing at anytime.
*"Standing" is considered sitting in your car while it is on.
If you are in walking distance, we encourage our students to walk or bike to school daily. This decreases cars in the carline. In fact, we are celebrating walking to school this week with International Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 6th!
Listen and Learn with Dr. Talley
Additional Listen & Learn sessions will be held from 7 - 9 pm on Thursday, November 4 at Granger Middle School (RSVP here) and Tuesday, December 14 at Crone Middle School (RSVP here).

Volunteers
- Executive Order = School personnel is defined as “any person who (1) is employed by, volunteers for, or is contracted to provide services for a School or school district serving students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade, or who is employed by an entity that is contracted to provide services to a School, school district, or students of a School, and (2) is in close contact (fewer than 6 feet) with other persons in the School for more than 15 minutes at least once a week on a regular basis as determined by the School.”
Want to be extra prepared? Stop in the office at anytime and get these elements taken care of! The Fun Run (This Thursday!) and Party Days (Fall Party coming up 10/29) are extra crazy and fun, so if we can get paperwork done prior, it is always better! Not sure if you are in the raptor system? Call the main office, and they can ensure you are ready to go: 630-428-6800.
