News from the Holy Rosary/Juan Diego Community

Message from the Principal

Happy Wednesday!

Can you believe that it is almost time for school to begin again? This Friday is the Meet the Teachers event, from 8 am - noon. Then, on Saturday, we have our Back to School BBQ from 1 - 3 pm. The weather looks decent for Saturday, but we will move the party upstairs to the Auditorium if it rains.

The teachers (and all of the staff) hit the ground running this week to help get their rooms and our entire building put back together after a summer of construction. The building is looking beautiful after Phase 2 of the remodel, creating new student bathrooms and office space. We are preparing for Phase 3, which will include additional upgrades and an elevator. We welcome the kiddos back on Tuesday, Sept. 6th at 7:45 am. Extended Care will begin on Wednesday. Please try to stop by this Friday or Saturday to visit and join in the community events.

Have a wonderful week!

Blessings,

Katie Dempsey

Principal

Calling All Volunteers!

Are you looking to get a jump start on your volunteer hours before school starts? Here are some volunteer opportunities:
  • If you’d like to get an early start with your volunteer hours, contact Colleen Thomson, casmt@comcast.net, to volunteer for the BBQ on Sept. 3rd. We’ll need help setting up, cleaning up, and someone to do the grilling.
  • We are in need of an Asst. Coach for Cross Country, as well as parents to help out with supervision at practice. If you are interested, please contact Ralph Thomson (CYO Athletic Director) at cyo@hrrsjda.org.

From the Development Desk!

If you have not liked our Facebook page yet, please do! You can find us at: https://www.facebook.com/HolyRosaryTacoma/
We post important school/event information, the weekly newsletter, along with fun photos of our students. It is also a great way to share school information with extended family and friends.

Do you shop on Amazon? Our school is now registered on Amazon Smile. When you shop through Amazon Smile, Amazon will donate 0.5% of your eligible purchases to our school. This ensures that your purchases are eligible for donation.

Extended Care Start Date

Hi, Folks. This is just a reminder that we will NOT have Extended Care on Tuesday. Before (6:30 - 8 am) and after school (3 - 6 pm) care will begin on Wednesday, 9/7.

Morning and Afternoon Drop-Off and Pick-Up

Drop-Off and Pick-Up for Pre-K 3 and 4 will be at 7:45 am and 2:45 pm in the front of the building. No parking is allowed in the front, to accommodate for drop-off and pick-up. For Kindergarten through Eighth grade, drop-off and pick-up are in the back of the building ONLY. Just follow the yellow lane for drive-through service or park in any of the spaces in the back to walk your child in and out of the building (parking is for children in all grades). Do not allow your child to walk to/from the building without you. Also, parents should not pick-up a student without making contact with the teacher. Teachers will be out to help everyone learn the new procedures. We just need to be patient for the first few days, until everyone learns the process.

Cross Country

Students in Pre-K through 8th Grade can participate in CYO Cross Country. Practices will be held on Mondays and Fridays from 3 - 4 pm. The Cross Country meet days are: Sept 25, Oct 2 and Oct 9. Thank you to Coach Pickles for heading this up!

Meals

Breakfast will be served beginning Tuesday, 9/6 and lunch will start on the first full day, Wednesday, 9/7. Ms. Lizbeth will be sending out applications for Free and Reduced meals in the month of Sept. In order to qualify for this, please make sure to complete the application and return it promptly, so that we can determine qualifications.

Meet the Teachers/Supply Drop-Off

Friday, Sep. 2nd, 8am-12pm

504 South 30th Street

Tacoma, WA

This is a wonderful time to stop by the school (anytime between 8 am and noon) to meet the teachers for the first time or visit with them after a long summer. It is also meant to be a time for students to drop off supplies so that they don't need to bring them in on the first day of school. Finally, it tends to make that first morning go much more smoothly and the kids less anxious! Stop by anytime between 8 am and noon and visit with us. We love to see those smiling faces!
