Welcome, New Teacher!
New Teacher Orientation - Digital Tools & Curriculum
We're glad you're a part of the SWP family!
This guide will either follow-up or preceded an in-person chat with me! I'm Rachel Porter and I serve as our corporation's Digital Curriculum Integration Specialist. I'm here to support you with all things related to edtech programs (such as Google Suite for Education) and digital components of our curriculum.
If you need help with other aspects of tech (your devices, Harmony, websites being blocked by the filter, etc), Ben & Jill will best be able to support you.

Chrome
Clever
- This will be how to get signed into everything. Some things will automatically take you in, others will require you to enter a username and password once and then save it for you (this is called "Single Sign-On")
- You'll get to this from clever.com Choose "login as a teacher", choose Montezuma Elementary (make sure it is Indiana!) and then sign in with Google (the same email address and password that gets you to your email).
- Since you'll use it to get to everything else, you'll want to bookmark this site and/or add the Chrome extension for it. If you're not sure how to do those things, let's add it to our list of things to work on in the future!
Harmony
If you need help with anything related to Harmony, please contact Jill Wiram.
Curriculum
- Curriculum Maps/Pacing Guides
- A grade level & content area folder for storing resources collectively, including state standards
- A space to post questions, share ideas, etc. with others teaching similar content.
- Guides for administering diagnostic tests and evaluating data.
Google Suite for Education
- Drive - Your "filing cabinet" to organize your own stuff as well as anything someone else shares with you.
- Docs - Google's version of Microsoft Word or Apple Pages
- Slides - Google's version of Microsoft PowerPoint or Apple Keynote
- Sheets - Google's version of Microsoft Excel or Apple Numbers
- Forms - A terrific tool for creating quizzes, tests, surveys, sign-ups, etc.
- Classroom - wonderful learning management platform that will allow you to post announcements, assignments, links, materials, etc. for you class.
- Calendar - Just what it says it is! We need to make sure you can access your school's staff calendar. If you don't see events there when you follow this link, email me!
You'll find some introductory self-paced training courses on these programs on my Awaken Learning PD page, along with many other digital tools and programs.
iReady
iReady is our core math curriculum, as well as a digital program that provides diagnostic data and differentiated instruction to help fill skill gaps.
READING (K-8)
- K-2 use iReady Reading's digital components consistently as part of their assessment and regular reading instruction, along with Reading Street as the core curriculum.
- We have expanded our purchase to have this option as a supplemental resource for grades 3-8. This will prove helpful if we must return to extended eLearning and will allow us to explore the program as potential long-term adoption.
- SPED Teachers will have access to iReady's core reading curriculum as well.
