Weekly Shares

Happy CSA day!

We hope you have been enjoying the items in your shares. Please do not be alarmed if you think that the shares are not as big as you had expected. Even in a "normal" year, CSA produce shares start out lighter and increase as the summer progresses. As you can imagine, this spring and early summer have been far from a normal year. The unprecedented rain has made it a tough growing season for farmers all over Ohio and throughout the Midwest, and Goodness Grows is no exception. Some of our seeds/plants have been washed away or hampered by the excess water. These past few days have helped a lot, luckily. We have been hard at work tending what is growing and putting in more plants. The gardens, fields, and raised beds are looking good and, before too long, there should be an abundant amount of veggies popping out everywhere! So, thank you for trusting us and joining with us in sharing the costs, risks, and bounty of a local food program. We will continue to work hard and to strive to be worthy of your support. Remember, we welcome questions or comments, so feel free to contact us anytime you have a concern or an idea to share.

Microgreen Mix


Microgreens, tasty little greens that pack a lot of health benefits, are the seedlings of vegetables and herbs. Once the seed of an herb or vegetable begins to grow, it is considered a sprout. Once the sprout begins to grow, the plant is considered a microgreen. Sprouts are usually harvested within 2-3 days while microgreens are harvested after 1-3 weeks of growing time. Baby greens are grown for longer periods and are usually around 3-4 inches tall when they are harvested. Red Currants

Currants are lovely little berries that range from tart to sweet. Try using them with yogurt and granola for a morning parfait, add them to fruit salad, top your oatmeal with a few, or just pop them into your mouth for a juicy burst! Or, pair them with the cilantro that is also in your share this week to make a special salad dressing. That recipe will be attached to your currants for a special treat.

Zucchini

This recipe from Table for Two provides a great way to make your own chips that are healthier than regular old potato chips!

Kale

Some people are leery of incorporating kale into their diet, but it is actually a very useful and nutritious leafy green. There will be a small amount in this week's share. Perfect for adding to a smoothie, tossing with your regular salad ingredients, sauteing with your eggs for an extra healthy breakfast scramble, or popping a handful into a pasta dish.
