Principal's Message from Mr. Salatel

We have successfully reached the halfway point of the 2020-21 school year. Our students and staff have done a remarkable job keeping our school open and making learning a priority. Our school has enjoyed many successes during this time, and I’m excited for all the great accomplishments that will come during the second semester. As we continue to navigate through this year, it’s that time of year where we start to plan for the 2021-22 school year. A major part of that planning will take place over the next few months, when our MS/HS counselors, Mrs. Holt and Mrs. Scholand, will be meeting with students to register them for next year’s courses. This is a very important piece in putting together the 2021-22 Master Schedule. Our school offers a wealth of academic opportunities for students. It’s very beneficial for students and families to take the time to discuss and make the best academic decisions to meet their academic needs. I strongly recommend that students take advantage of the many Advanced Placement Courses, GV BOCES offerings, GCC, Accelerate U, and enrichment courses GCS offers. Choosing the right academic programs for students is a critical part in Career and/or College Readiness. Please contact Mrs. Holt or Mrs. Scholand if you have any questions during the course selection process. In closing, I would like to wish you and your family health and happiness throughout the year.

A Message from Mr. Veley

Athletic Update: High risk sports are still on a delay. We are waiting for the NYS Department of Health to approve these activities. This includes winter sports, football, and volleyball. Spring sports are scheduled to begin on April 19, 2021.

This month’s Student Spotlight is awarded to the seniors on our 2020 Girls Varsity Soccer Team. Pictured below: Mary Chanler, Abby Kreher, Lainey Scoville, Faith Hainsworth, Rachele Main, and Mia Cicoria-Timm

Head Coach Mr. Drollette and this talented group of young student-athletes led their team to an undefeated season. The team was crowned the LCAA and Section 5 Champions. In addition to their remarkable accomplishments on the field, the students also excelled in the classroom. The Girls Varsity Soccer Team were named NYS Scholar Athletes Award Winners for having a combined GPA over 90%. The leadership provided by our senior players was instrumental in their highly successful season. On behalf of our MS/HS, I would like to thank all the players for representing our school in the finest manner. We will miss you next year, but your historic year will never be forgotten. I would like to wish you the very best in your future endeavors.

Community Spotlight: Charlie Parent

On December 29, 2020, the entire GCS School Community suffered a tremendous loss with the passing of Charlie Parent. Charlie graduated from GCS in 1970. Since then Mr. Parent has been a strong advocate for our school and community. Mr. Parent spent his entire career working for the village. The beautiful scenery found throughout our village is directly attributed to Charlie’s efforts and quality work. He served for 50 years on the Geneseo Fire Department. During this time he mentored many future firefighters. Charlie was always willing to provide a helping hand for special events in our community. Charlie’s friendly smile and personality will be greatly missed in our community. Charlie is survived by his wife Deb, who is a beloved bus driver in our district. Our thoughts and prayers are with Deb and their family during these difficult times. We deeply appreciate all that Charlie has done for our school and community.

January Midterm Information

The January 2021 parent/student letter and schedule may be found at

Classroom Spotlight: Current Event Discussions:

Our MS/HS Social Studies Department have attempted to have open and balanced conversations around the attack on the Capitol building on January 6. Our school wanted to ensure that students had a safe place to ask questions and that the tragic events of that day were put into context. While it was a sad day for America, we hope that our country can grow from this darkness and find a common purpose and unity moving forward.

We also recognized the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. It is so important to honor his legacy and contributions to our country. With that said, it is important to us that we are celebrating his ideals and beliefs of equality on a daily basis.
