ELA
The second semester brings many new concepts in reading. We will begin with point of view. We will look at how reading a text from 1st person point of view can be different than experiencing a text from 3rd person point of view. This will tie into the writing pieces they created in the first semester. We will also see how the novels we have read and are currently reading use 1st and 3rd person points of view with their characters.
For writing we are beginning our unit on persuasive arguments. This is a large unit and can be challenging for the kids to master. As they progress through middle school, this will be a great foundation for their debate units that are required in 6-8 grades.
Remember to have your child read every night. Their homework expectation is that they do read and meet their AR goal. Second quarter had a huge amount of kids meeting their goals! I am so proud of their efforts. Check in with your child to see how they did.

Social Studies
For social studies, we are using the next week to finish our Native American unit. The students received a project sheet before the break. It lists project ideas for individual projects to be completed at home. Each child is required to complete one project. We are also working on a group presentation. Each group is given a Native American region. The groups are to create a Google Slide presentation and also create an assessment based on their presentation. These will be completed in class.
Once this unit is completed, we will be focusing on early exploration.
