RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS WEEK
Be a Buddy, not a Bully - Kindness Can Change the World!
Our PTA program chairs have planned the following activities for RAK week and Black History Month.
Please take the time to celebrate this week and have students participate in the activities.
The ripple effect of kindness can carry us through to the end of the year if you help promote it!
Throughout the week:
- Students are asked to bring in a canned good to be donated to the Houston Food Bank. Bins will be placed in the front office and pod areas.
- Appreciation letters. Students will be encouraged to write letters of appreciation to teacher/faculty/parent/friend. Teachers will be provided stationary. Please make sure to distribute these to your students.
Monday
Dance Performance at 10:16 for grades 2 - 5
Puppet show for grades preK-1, at 1:30 p.m.
Both will have a Kindness/anti-bullying theme and both will be in the cafeteria.
Tuesday
Valentine parties
1:00 for 5th grade
2:00 for all other grades
Thursday
Pajama Day (an act of kindness and surprise fun for students).
Students should wear appropriate footwear for Health Fitness.
Friday
Play with a new friend day. Examples are: Sit next to someone new at lunch, play a different game than usual at recess, or just be kind to someone sitting alone.
Bulletin Boards
1). "Throw Kindness around like confetti" on library wall facing hall. Students and teachers will place post-it notes of Kindness and encouragement on the bulletin board.
2) "Before you speak, think and be smart, it's hard to fix a wrinkled heart" posted at the top of the stairs by 4th and 5th grade
Black History Month
- PTA will place posters of famous African American inventors, authors, activists, and public figures down the main hall on the windows by the garden.
- KMWE and/or student council will also highlight historical figures on morning announcements.
- "I have a Dream" bulletin board - Students can post their dream/vision for the world.
Morning Announcements
After meeting with Team Leaders, it has been decided that it is best to shorten our Morning Announcements. Shortening our Morning Announcements should enable all classes to start instruction promptly at 8:00 a.m.
- Watch DOGS will go first (if we have them)
- Introduction, pledges and minute of silence.
- Special Announcements (Principal, Librarian, Student Council, etc.)
- Weather
- Any sports announcements will only be for major sporting events.
- Cafeteria menu and sign off.
The students were notified this morning.
All teachers should be showing the announcements in their classes, unless there is a technical issue. If you are having a technical issue, please put in a tech ticket, so the problem can be resolved.
Meeting on Wednesday, February 15
Earlier you received emails about MAP testing. If interested in doing the testing, please read the email and follow the instructions. If not, please disregard the emails.
