Churchill 4th Grade and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

Mrs. Travers' students joined a live stream this week with the author of 'Twenty-One Steps,' Mr. Jeff Gottesfeld. The new book discusses the guarding of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington Cemetery in Washington DC. Mr. Gottesfeld read the book and then interviewed one of the current guards Sergeant First Class Chelsea Porterfield. Sergeant Porterfield is one of only five women out of 696 guards in the tomb's history to serve. Mrs. Travers also shared her photos and experiences of the changing of the guard ceremony as she has witnessed it numerous times herself. 2021 marks the 100th anniversary of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Thank you to the National Archives for sponsoring this event!
