Hope is needed in times of great tribulation.
In The Diary of Anne Frank, hope is shown throughout. There were many times during the families’ stay in the annex when they had hope, even during the most difficult times. During the Hanukah celebration a thief broke into the factory below, everyone was very upset and then Mr. Frank said ”Have we lost all faith? All courage? A moment ago we thought that they’d come for us. We were sure it was the end. But it wasn’t the end. We’re alive, safe” (409). Even though many of the people in the annex were feeling scared and helpless, Mr. Frank gives them the courage to continue to have hope for the future.
