MS Science Olympiad 2023
Manie Musicale!
Bonjour! Update from MS French I:
Our school is participating in a global francophone music challenge called “Manie Musicale”. It’s a play off “March Madness” where students make a bracket selection of current French music instead of basketball teams. In class we have previewed/listened to all sixteen artists entered in this year’s competition. Furthermore, students have read brief biographies of the francophone artists and had discussions on the individual's background before voting. Our French I class at Camp Hill MS is one of over 4,000 schools around the world voting on the same French songs.
Students vote every other day throughout the month of March.

Winter Weather, Snow Days and Flexible Instructional Days- oh my!
This year, the district plans to offer Flexible Instructional Days (FID) when we have bad winter weather. Per Mr. Serfass’s message:
The first snow day is a true day off, which will be made up on June 7. Any additional days will be FID (Flexible Instruction Days), up to 5. After 5, the days will be true days off as snow days and will be made up June 8 and beyond as needed.
Below is an outline of what students and families can expect on a FID day schedule:
8:00 a.m.: Daily activities will be posted on Schoology by 8 a.m. Students are expected to log on to each class in Schoology and complete all work assigned for each class.
9:00 a.m.: All teachers and students will log in to period 1 on Zoom. Period 1 teachers will take attendance and then explain the plan for the day to their students.
In order to be considered present for the day, students MUST log in at 9 a.m. to period 1 on Zoom AND complete the attendance questions and all assignments posted by teachers on Schoology for each period of the day.
After the 9 a.m. Zoom, students will work asynchronously on assignments. Teachers will post an attendance question (can be a google form or a poll on Schoology) and an assignment for each class. Additionally, there will be assignments and videos for students to complete.
Teachers will check completion of the activities in order to report attendance. A student MUST attend the 9 a.m. period 1 Zoom AND complete all assignments in order to be marked present for the day.
Special Education Teachers will reach out to the students on their caseload via Schoology and offer to help with any assignments.
*CTC students will log on in the morning and then follow the CTC schedule
10:00 - 11:00 a.m.: All teachers and counselors will be on Zoom for Open Office hours. Students are invited to join a teacher’s Zoom classroom for help, instruction or to ask questions as needed.
11:00 - 2:50 p.m.: Students are completing assignments in Schoology asynchronously. All teachers will continue to be available to answer questions via Schoology messages as needed.
*Athletics/Extra curricular activities- if there is an Early Dismissal or a FID day all events are postponed.

Lunch
It is one of the most unique cultural traditions we have inherited at Camp Hill Middle School. Students should be reminded that we are all responsible for keeping this privilege by demonstrating our Lion PRIDE values. Any middle school student who wants to leave the campus for lunch must have a signed permission form on file or a note from a parent giving permission to leave the building at lunch. When students leave the campus, be sure to exit the building through the cafeteria doors ONLY and practice safety when in town- utilize the crosswalks. On campus, be reminded we offer two outdoor eating spaces. The first being the courtyard connected to our cafeteria and secondly the Literacy Park on Chestnut Street. Remember to show your Lion PRIDE while in the community. Clean up after yourself and leave the space in the same condition as you found it. Finally, make sure your lunch is finished by the time you arrive back to the back parking lot entrance. No food or drinks will be permitted in the building, with the exception of water. Cafeteria lunches can be purchased at a price of $3.00 per lunch.
Attendance
Water Bottles/Food and Drinks in classrooms and learning spaces
Keeping in line with our student handbook expectations, beverages such as soda, coffee, coffee drinks, energy drinks, and food are not permitted in the classrooms at the middle school. We want our spaces of learning and performance free from spills and litter. Water however, is permitted. Students may also use the district water fountains & fill stations situated throughout the facility. Students will not be permitted to enter the building with any beverages other than water.
