ATTENDANCE POLICIES
Tardy Policy:
The school day begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 2:51 p.m. The doors open as early as 7:10 a.m. for students to arrive. They can go to class when the first bell rings at 7:40 a.m.
If a student arrives to school any time after 8:00 a.m. they must be brought to the office by the parent or designee to sign in before going to class. In order to make the tardy event excused a doctor note or parent note must be written and turned into the office. Please note that the term “tardy” applies to both late arrivals and/or early dismissals.
Absence Policy:
If a student is absent from school his/her parent or guardian should call 359-9600 between the hours of 7:00a.m.-10:00 a.m. The office will contact all parents who do not report their absent children. Anytime a student returns to school after being absent, a parent note or doctor note is required or the absence will be unexcused. After the third day unexcused, a letter will be mailed home. Students are expected to attend school every day, but we do understand that illness happens and some appointments need to be during the school day. Every student is permitted 10 excuses per school year. After 10, if a Medical Excuse Form is not completed, the absences will be unexcused. After 6 unexcused absences, a child is considered truant.
Homework Help Grades 3-8
SVA Counselors will be offering homework help to students in grades 3rd-8th. Homework help is offered Thursday afternoons from 3:00-4:00 PM. Students are required to be picked up from school by his/her parent or guardian by the clock tower entrance; there is no transportation provided. At this time, students can work on completing homework, studying for tests, reading, completing a project, or practicing sight words. Please only send your student if they have school work to work on. This will begin on Thursday, October 3rd and last through the school year. Please look for tutoring cancellations in the school newsletter.
Summit View Academy is committed to academic success, and we look forward to assisting with the needs of your child!

BIG SMILES DENTAL PROGRAM at SVA on November 6, 7, & 8
Great News! Your child can get dental care at their school.
Best of all, in most cases there is no cost to you if your child is insured with Medicaid or CHIP! Private insurance and affordable self-pay options are also available.
Easy & Convenient
Having your child seen by the in-school dentist saves you valuable time. Top quality care is provided by local, licensed dentists right in the familiar surroundings of your child’s school. Dental care includes a complete exam, x-rays, cleaning, fluoride and sealants when needed. Restorative care, such as fillings, may also be provided.
Keep Your Child Healthy
By having your child see the in-school dentist, you can help reduce the risk of:
· Early Tooth Loss caused by dental decay
· Gum Disease
· Heart Disease
· Impaired speech development
Taking care of your child’s teeth is an important part of
keeping them healthy!
Registration forms have been sent home with students!

Ski and Snowboard Club at Perfect North Slopes
Many of you are busy families, but the great news is, you don't have to "join" or be "with" the Ski and Snowboard Club to take advantage of the discounts Perfect North offers to club members! Friends and family members can also take advantage of discounted season passes or debit cards. Unfortunately, individual day/lift tickets are not available for discounts, but you can purchase bonus debit cards (pay $80 for a $100 card for example) that can be used for tickets (you cannot purchase season passes with them however). If you think it might be fun but unsure how to ski or board, introductory lessons are included with every visit (or you can add on advanced lessons) or you can go tubing! For more information, please visit Mrs. Klemin's website or Pefect North's website.

SVA's Cell Phone Usage and BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) Policy:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1IQtsLmnaT56Fif0swATynhQvTl2swSXM
This school year, SVA is allowing students in grades 4-8 to bring in school approved devices for classroom usage. With the continued support of our PTSA, we are moving closer and closer to 1:1 for our students but are not quite there yet. Recommended devices for students include Chromebooks and laptops. Information and permission forms will be sent home with all students in grades 4-8 or you can access the forms at bit.ly/SVABYOD if this is a program you want your child to participate in. Cell phones and tabletsare not recommended as a BYOD for educational purposes and therefore will not be an approved device. Cell phones and tablets are to be left in student backpacks/lockers during the school day unless directed by teacher for classroom use. We will review this change with students and teach new procedures at the start of this school year. We appreciate your help in reminding your child that cell phones should be off and stored in their backpacks/lockers at the start of the school day and should be taken home with them at dismissal. All communication to your child during the school day regarding changes in transportation for dismissal should be done through the main office.
