Why are ePortfolios crucial to education?

ePortfolios provide an authentic way for students to showcase their dynamic abilities, evidence of learning, and individual growth over time while yielding a powerful and comprehensive digital resume for student reflection.

As 21st century learners, students must be prepared with high levels of academic strengths including literacy, digital skills, critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, and communication. Current assessment methods are often one dimensional when it comes to truly evaluating student learning and knowledge. An underlying factor of ePortfolios is to prepare all students to be successful, productive citizens capable of critical thinking and problem solving.

Why do leaders need an ePortfolio?

Moving Forward

Many educators have chosen to lead the way by modeling ePortfolios for students and showcasing their expertise and experiences. As part of the I3 Cohort, we are asking you to engage in the ePortfolio process. Here is a video showing you how to create your own ePortfolio.

Goal Setting and Reflection

  • When creating an ePortfolio, goal setting is at the center of the process.
  • What impression do you want to leave when others view your ePortfolio?
  • What are your career goals?
  • How can you showcase your previous experiences in your ePortfolio?

Your welcome page is the first impression to your ePortfolio and typically is the most challenging to develop. By our next I3 Meeting, create and publish the opening page of your ePortfolio. In addition, decide on how you would like your pages organized and named. This video will help guide you through this process. During the next meeting, be prepared to discuss this process and share your results.

Enjoy this journey!
