As we try to be good neighbors, be considerate of our neighbors at pick up time. Please do not block driveways, and please utilize the cul-de-sacs to turn around. As the weather changes, please ensure that your students store their cool weather jackets and clothing in their lockers. If they need assistance, please have them see any of their teachers for help.
Sign ups for Conferences close at 8:00 AM on Wednesday, November 17th so that our staff can best prepare to meet with all of you! If you are unable to sign up with a teacher, please reach out to them directly to set up a time.

Freshman Year Information for DHS
Attention all 8th graders, Parents/Guardians of 8th graders, and 8th grade teachers...and hello to the DHS Class of 2026!
Registration for high school is coming up soon! In preparation for this, we invite all 8th grade families and teachers to join our brand new Fine and Applied Arts Department Facebook group. This group will introduce you to all the wonderful Fine and Applied Arts teachers at Deerfield High School, as well as answer any questions about registration for their classes. The arts are a critical part of a holistic education, and we are so excited to invite your students to discover, nurture, and grow their artistic abilities through the wonderful programs at DHS. Even if your child has not been involved in the arts in middle school, we invite you to join the Facebook group.

Reminder for School Volunteers
A quick reminder, that all volunteers or individuals spending prolonged time in one of our buildings are required to be vaccinated or provide proof of a negative COVID test.
If you are coming to our building to volunteer, please remember these things:
-Wear a mask, regardless of vaccination status
-Bring a photo ID to check in at the front office
-Bring your proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test (not self-administered) from within the last week
-Complete a Covid self-certification prior to coming to school
Thank you for your cooperation and please contact Eric Steckling (esteckling@dps109.org) if you have any questions.
What is Test To Stay?
This year, fewer students are needing to be quarantined if they are a close contact to a COVID-19 case, thanks to the Lake County Health Department's "Test To Stay" protocol. Click here to read more from the district about it.
Student Health Requirements 21-22
We recognize and are mindful of the fact that many families may have had difficulty getting children in for physical, dental, and eye exams as the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has presented many challenges to routine medical care; however, at this time, all child-health related requirements for school attendance, remain in effect for children in public, private, or parochial schools, as per 105 ILCS 5/27-8.1.
Health-related examinations and immunization requirements are due no later than October 15. Please click here to be directed to our website for detailed information regarding specific requirements by grade level.
You will soon be receiving communication from our building nurse if your child is missing any of the required documentation. Students not in compliance with the health examination and immunization requirements will be excluded from school beginning Friday, October 15, 2021. Please reach out with any questions regarding these requirements as we want to partner with you to ensure compliance with these requirements. Thank you.
This week students met in their ExSEL groups!
ExSEL (Executive Functioning + Social-Emotional Learning) is a new addition to our Wednesday early release schedule. This is designated school-wide time each week for students to build relationships with teachers and peers. During this time, students will have the space and opportunity to check in with teachers while focusing on social-emotional learning, executive functioning, relationship building, coping strategies, and self-awareness.
SHIELD Testing
Students will begin SHIELD testing at 8:30 AM. Please ensure that students do not have food, gum, or drinks an hour prior to testing. Students will be called out of class for SHIELD testing according to the schedule below. Please communicate with your student if you would like them to test or not. We make reminder calls for all students for testing, and if students have your consent they can test even if they do not have a QR code/lanyard yet. (We are working with district office to ensure everyone has one soon!)
