Nosebleeds are very common with cold, dry weather. Some children are frequent sufferers! If your child gets a nosebleed, here are some simple tips to help stop the bleeding:

  • Use some tissues or a damp cloth to catch the blood.
  • Sit or stand so your head is above your heart.
  • Tilt your head forward and pinch the soft part of your nose together just below the bony center part of your nose. Applying pressure helps stop the blood flow and the nosebleed will usually stop within 10 minutes of steady pressure.
  • Ice may also be applied to the bridge of the nose or cheeks

If you get a nosebleed, don’t blow your nose. Doing so can cause additional nosebleeds. Also, don’t tilt your head back. This common practice will cause blood to run down your throat. This can make you cough, choke, or have a stomachache. Try not to blow your nose for several hours after the bleeding stops to avoid opening the clot. Seek medical attention if you are unable to stop the nosebleed after 30 minutes of treatment.

Hearing Screening Follow-up Forms

If your child did not pass the initial hearing screen AND the follow-up hearing screen, a letter was sent home that was to be filled out by a physician and returned to school. A follow-up letter was sent home if the physician’s form was not returned. Please be sure to return these forms so that we can make any necessary accommodations for your child’s hearing needs at school.

Pop Tab Collection Program

The students at CRES have started a project for Riley Hospital/Ronald McDonald House. Our goal is to collect one million pop tabs! (one pound= 1000 pop tabs) Water jugs have been placed in all five grade levels-4th, 3rd, 2nd, 1st and Kindergarten/Early Childhood. Please send your pop tabs from aluminum cans in a box or bag with your child any day to school. Ask your neighbors and relatives to save them, too! We are proud that CRES is helping to ‘pick up the tab’ for needed funds to support Indiana’s only “home away from home” for families of seriously ill or injured children receiving treatment.

To many, a pop tab is just a piece of aluminum with one purpose – to open a can. But to the Ronald McDonald House of Indiana, the pop tab is a valuable resource. Why? Collected pop tabs are recycled, generating much-needed funds to support the House and the nearly 1,900 families they serve each year.

Collecting tabs is a great way for all of us to really make a difference in lives of families and children in need-not to mention learning about the importance of recycling. THANK YOU for your support.
