Principal Arroyo's Message
Dear Hirsch Families,
Wow! The countdown until the end of the year has begun. Thank you for all of your support
you have provided and continue to give during this school year. We appreciate being a team
with you to support our students.
We want to send positive thoughts to our Grades 3-5 students as they are taking their state
standardized assessments this month. We are guiding them to just breathe and do their best.
As a reminder, students should be on time to school after a healthy breakfast and a good
night’s sleep. Please avoid appointments during school hours for the next few weeks to not
miss a testing session.
Next week we are celebrating our Amazing Teachers and Staff! A flyer is being sent home with
your student but that flyer is also attached to this newsletter to give ideas of ways you can say
THANK YOU to all of our Hirsch staff. There are so many staff at our site who “teach” your
students aside from their classroom teacher which include our prep teachers, paraeducators,
librarian, custodians, nurse, and office staff!
Our Hirsch PTA has exciting upcoming events. Look for their newsletter and flyers in this
newsletter. There are so many ways you can still be involved!
As a reminder, the last day of school is Friday, June 2nd! It will be here before we know it! Here
is the link for the next school year’s calendar. Link As a reminder, please avoid planning
vacations during school days. Our Hirsch staff hope you have a wonderful summer and we wish
those who will be moving to new locations or schools a safe journey!

Bike Repair Clinic - May 17th
We want to see more families riding their bikes to Hirsch Elementary. That’s why we’ve invited the BikeMobile to provide free tune ups & repairs for parents and children.
The BikeMobile can fix flat tires, adjust brakes and gears, and even replace broken or worn out parts like chains, seats, and tires. The only thing it can’t do is replace missing wheels or gears. While the mechanics work on your bike they’ll explain how to keep it running smooth.
Bike or no bike, everyone is welcome to attend to learn about maintenance, safety, and more! This is a first come, first serve event. Space is limited to 20 people.
Bring your bikes to Hirsch on Wednesday, May 17th between 1:30 to 4:00pm. We look forward to seeing you there!
Also, be sure to connect with the BikeMobile on Facebook and Instagram
Spring Program 2023
Please reserve the morning of May 30th for Hirsch's return of the Spring Program! Students will be performing what they have learned from their Music for Minors docents which is sponsored by our PTA. Additionally, our school band will showcase their skills. The program will begin at 9:15 and take approximately 1 1/2 hours. All are welcome!
THANK YOU PRESENTERS!
Thank you for all of our presenters for Career Week. We really appreciate you taking the time to share information about your careers with our students.
Tech Challenge
Three of our 4th grade students participated in the Tech Challenge, presented by Amazon and conducted by the Tech Museum in San Jose. They competed against more than 150 teams from across the Bay area and won the Judges Choice Award. This is the first time they participated in this event and made us very proud.

May Counselor's Corner
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. We are celebrating Mental Health Awareness Month at our school because mental health is an important part of our overall health. Learning more about mental health also helps us understand, show kindness, and help people who are having challenges with their mental health. It is important to remember that good mental health does not mean that we are happy all of the time. Good mental health means that when we are unhappy, stressed, angry, and worried, we are able to deal with these feelings in a positive way. Please see this linked flier to learn more about how to support your child with positive mental health.

May Reading Corner with Mrs. Winmill
This school year has almost come to an end! Can you believe it?! I cannot. The last day to check out library books will be May 12th. Books will need to be returned by May 19th. If your student has lost a book, look for a fine notice to be sent out within the next few weeks. Please resolve this issue before the end of the school year.
Here are a few highlights that we had in the library this past year:
Almost 24,000 books checked out!
Highly successful Book Fair!
New STEAM/STEM books added!
Successful Read Across America Week with over 2,000 books read just that week!
And much more!
There will be a few changes made before the beginning of next school year. All the picture books will be organized by genre/subject. This will help our learning readers to more easily locate a book they want to read and help them be more engaged and motivated with their reading. Once this is completed, I will begin working on the Fiction books. The Non-Fiction books will stay organized in the Dewey Decimal system, but there will be some new signage to help our students more easily locate the materials they need.
I am still working on summer reading opportunities for our Bulldogs that will help them retain their hard-earned reading skills over the summer. Once these are ready, we will send them out to our families.
Take care and keep reading!
Mrs. Winmill

We also have the spring program coming up on May 30th. It will be during school hours, so if you can get some time off that day, it would be great to see parents at the school to watch the show!

Hope to see everyone there!

Moving This Summer? If you are planning on moving soon or have already moved, please notify the office before June 7th so we may prepare for next year’s enrollment. Moving after June 7th? The school office will close on Wednesday, June 7th for the summer. If you should move while the office is closed, please email the Student Support Services Department at SSS@fusdk12.net.

Please check out the lost and found racks at Hirsch! Items not claimed before school ends will be donated to a local charity.
REMINDER: Be sure to write your student’s name inside their items (jackets, lunch boxes, umbrellas, hats, etc.) if there’s a possibility of it being lost.
