Be Kind Whenever Possible. It Is Always Possible.
A friendly reminder: If you have information that needs to go out to the whole staff, and it can wait until Monday, submit it to be included in the MMM. We are trying to cut down on all staff emails.

Please contact Rachel Prince for more information.

We can make this year's celebration meaningful with some preparation. As a building, we can do anything from inviting families for coffee to preparing students to reflect on and share their thoughts and journeys to inviting people from the community to help celebrate.
Tell Colleen your ideas for how to make it meaningful for our students and our community and how you are willing to participate in making that happen.
International Potluck
Teachers, on December 20 we are hosting our 5th annual International Potluck and building tours for families. Please personally invite your families to come with a dish to share on December 20 from 5:00 - 7:00.
A robo call will also be going out to invite families but that is rarely as effective as personal invitations.
Here are the invitations letters:

Just a reminder--
- Staff can gain entry to the office from the main, shared hallway by swiping your card on the wall to the right of the door as you are looking at the office.
- Walkie Talkies should be put in the charger and turned off overnight. If they are not turned off, the charge will not last throughout the day.
- If you need to order materials or goods for an upcoming class or project, please let Traci know as far in advance as possible. The purchasing department has launched a new system and for now, it may take a bit longer than usual to get orders.
- The sensory room and quiet room are not for staff breaks
- Payroll should be entered by Friday payday. Traci starts approving on Monday morning and continues through Tuesday. If you enter or change anything on ESS after Tuesday at 4:00, you will need to let Traci know.
Please refer to the payroll schedule here
Multicultural Literacy Resources
Check out these great multicultural literacy resources! Be sure to choose narration in the student's native language along with English. They can have the book read to them in their native language, then in English.
Unite for Literacy provides free digital access to picture books, narrated in many languages. Literacy is at the core of a healthy community, so we unite with partners to enable all families to read with their young children.
Storybooks Minnesota has stories from many countries. There are stories with Characters that reflect many of our students. Stories can be read to students in the language that you choose and in the level that you choose.
Peer Coaching Sessions for Licensed Staff
Each session meets over 2 days:
Dec. 3 and Dec. 10, 5-8pm @ MFT Building
Jan. 9 and Jan. 16, 5-8pm @ Davis Center Assembly Room
Feb. 11 and Feb. 25, 5-8pm @ Davis Center Assembly Room
Register in eCompass, course #90854
Peer Coaching is a requirement for Achievement of Tenure (AofT) and
is also a peer observation option for tenured teachers.
Licensed staff will learn how to plan, observe and post-conference with colleagues to create a positive, professional, impactful, and high-quality peer coaching experience.
Work Based Learning Update
Do you have a student who is working in a paid, competitive position and who could benefit from some additional support? Please send the student to T227 to speak to a work coordinator and pick up an OJT agreement. If the employer agrees, the work coordinator will visit the place of employment and help support the student's success on the job.
Please continue to encourage your students to get connected with VRS. Contact Cheryl Delery for north side students, Amber Gunderson for south side students, and Alamin Wahila for students who have recently arrived in the US or are experiencing a cultural barrier. No need to wait for an IEP meeting, or for the student's last year. Sooner is better!
Please be aware that over the next couple of weeks the work coordinators will be working to assess the career interests of each first year student. Our goal is to better tailor our work sites to students interests.
Security
In general it is good practice to minimize the number of credit cards or cash that you carry every day and keep items with you or locked. More information on security reminders and procedures can be found here.
This is another reason/reminder to keep your doors closed and locked. The best security comes from relationship building. Be sure to be in the halls greeting students as they enter each period.
Seasons Greetings everyone!
