Weekly Newsletter | Issue 16 | December 5, 2022
A Message from the Principal
Chapman families,
We have just two weeks until our winter break and a lot of informational items packed into this newsletter for the month of December!
PTA's Winter Wonderland is Wednesday and Thursday. Information came home with students and is also below. Our 5th grade Band and Orchestra Concert is Friday! If you are a 5th grade Band/Orchestra parent please complete the RSVP for the program by Thursday.
Did you know that SHS has their very own spirit shop called, The Derby? This shop is student run with items to purchase both in person and online at https://thederbyshopshs.square.site/.
There is also a reminder for appropriate dress for winter weather recess. Thank you to our families who have completed our Family Climate and Culture Survey, we have 53 responses! We greatly value your feedback. The survey is open through December 9 and would love to see more families complete the survey. Please take a few moments to read through this week's newsletter. Have a wonderful week!

Winter Break
Winter break is coming up on December 19th - January 2nd. Students will return on January 3, 2023. We wish everyone a warm and restful break!
Class Spotlight: Encore Collaboration!
Our Encore teachers (Music, Art and PE) worked together to teach our students some dancing. Students in grades 2, 3, 4 met in the gym during their Encore time and all learned how to dance the Virginia Reel, a folk dance introduced in America during the late 1600s. Students in grades K and 1 danced some fun Turkey dances. Mrs. Strong, Mrs. Barbour and Mr. Lewandowski had a great time dancing with the kids!
Alphabet Fashion Show
Our kindergarten students have learned all of their letters! They each dressed up as a letter and had an alphabet fashion show that paraded through Chapman!
Band & Orchestra Concert RSVP
We invite fifth grade families to attend Chapman's Fifth Grade Band & Orchestra Winter Concert on Friday, December 9, 2022 at 9:45 AM! Doors will open to families at 9:30 AM.
We ask that you try not to bring more than two guests per student. Please RSVP here by Thursday, December 8th, for each attending guest and place the student's name in the comments. Guests will be checked in at Door G with their IDs on the day of the event
Iowa/CoGAT Scores Coming Home
2nd & 4th Grade Families:
Your child should have come home with an envelope this week which contains their IOWA and CoGAT scores from the tests they took in October. Please review the results and reach out to your teacher if you have any concerns.
Winter Weather Reminder
Now that the weather has officially cooled down, please make sure that students are dressed weather appropriate for recess. Students will go outdoors unless the temperature, including wind chill, is below 20 degrees. Please also write your child's name in coats and hats. This allows us to return lost or misplaced items back to the correct student.
PBIS Climate & Culture Family Survey
Just as we like to hear from our students, we also want to hear from our families! Please take a moment to complete our PBIS Climate & Culture Survey for Families below by December 9. We appreciate your time to share your voice with us to help aide in our future decision making in regards to our school climate and culture. Thank you for your time!
PBIS Fun Day
Congratulations to our students for earning more than 1100 individual PRIDE points! To celebrate, students received a school-wide fun day on November 22nd. In addition to snacks and fall-themed activities, students enjoyed dance parties, relay races, and outdoor games. Thank you to our parent helpers and staff who helped make this a fun day!
