VOGELTOWN SCHOOL - THE 'VS' WAY
Care for the land, Care for the people, Go Forward
Our Values: I.R.O.C.K
Inclusive, Respectful, Original, Courageous, Kind
Whakauru, Whakaute, Tipu, Kaha, Atawhai
SCHOOL VALUE THIS TERM: 'TO BE COURAGEOUS'
These are for our Vogeltown learners to be:
Inclusive (Whakaru), Respectful (Whakaute), Original (Tipu), Courageous (Kaha) and Kind (Atawhai).
These values were chosen by the staff, learners and community of Vogeltown School in 2019.
This term we are focusing on being 'Courageous'.
To be courageous we want our learners to give everything a go, be a risk taker, stick up for themselves, think of their own solutions, try new things, offer opinions and ideas, join in with others, and to be their own person.
SCHOOL GOAL: Being 'open' to new learning!
WHAT: Being prepared to learn new ‘skills’ at school this term!
WHY: To understand that learning never stops
To know that I am capable of learning new things
Being open to learn in all areas – socially, academically and emotionally
I can improve myself by being open to new ideas
SIGNS OF SUCCESS:
You are keen to ‘take on’ new learning and use this learning to develop your skills
You want to learn new things – you are a sponge and might go on to research more!
Even if it is not a subject you like, you are still keen to learn and develop your skills
You are always improving and developing your skills with new learning.
KIA ORA VS WHANAU, FROM MR O
We have come to our third week at Covid Alert Level 2. We are still following the MoE and MoH protocols at Level 2, please see the link below for our school restrictions and safety plan at Level 2. A massive thanks to our Vogeltown teaching team for their professionalism with these protocols.
If you are coming in to the school for any reason, please scan the QR code which is located at the front of each office door entrances. If you need to drop off anything, or catch up with a Vogeltown team member, then please ring the office first.
The kids have been training hard for the cross country and it is great to hear them talk about their fitness progress! We do not want to cancel this event due to Level 2 and because of all the hard work the kids have put in. We will be running this event next Wednesday 2nd September. We can not have any spectators at this event, due to social distancing, crowd gathering protocols and contact tracing. We ask that you please respect these protocols. We will try and have some Facebook live updates on the day and get lots of photos to share on Facebook and our website.
We will be holding the kids in classrooms until it is their turn to run.

* The Whanau fun run will now be in Term 4. We will update you in Term 4 once we find a space.
We will let you know if we need to change or postpone any more events.
Enrolment Scheme and Out of Zone Applications
Early in September the Board of Trustees will be advertising any 2021 available spaces for out of zone students wishing to enrol at Vogeltown. It is very likely that spaces will only be for children turning five and starting school. Please ensure that we have children's names and your contact details on our database so that we can make contact when the out of zone enrolment process commences. Please note that children living in zone have automatic right of enrolment.
Lockdown Drill
Next week we will be holding a lockdown drill across the school. We will be doing this on Tuesday at 10:40am. We have to practice this drill at least once per year. The kids might want to talk to you about what they do during this drill and why we need to practice this. Please be aware, the school will be under 'lockdown' from 10:40am - 11:00am.
Have a great weekend with your families whanau. Be kind, be safe, be aware.

This money is going to be used to build a 'natural' playground between Rm 1 and Rm 2, it will be amazing! Watch this space as we plan the design and look of this area.
This week we sent home the 'Mighty Spellathon' information. This is a great fundraiser as it is about our Vogeltowners doing some awesome learning and at the same time, trying to get sponsored to see how they go. Please help support this 'learning fundraiser'.
