Mrs.Gail Tumminello, MA, Librarian, Media Specialist- Social Media & Your Middle School Child
Understanding the connected world of middle school students can be challenging for parents. Students communicate online in a very different way than most adults. The reality is that there’s always something new coming around the corner and middle school students are often early adopters of the latest and greatest apps and social networks.
The purpose of the workshop is to help parents understand how middle schoolers are using social media and to provide them with tips and tools they can use to help them minimize negative experiences, while maximizing the positive opportunities that social media has to offer.Dr. Linda Peterson, LPC, NBCC, Counselor- Adolescent Brain
Attitude, rolling eyes, back talk, OH MY! A glimpse into the middle school mind and an understanding for parents of what our kids are going through during the adolescent years.
Mrs. Amy Hensley, RN, School Nurse- CONCUSSIONS/MILD BRAIN INJURIES
Officer McCullough, Resource Officer- Vaping & Drugs
During this presentation, we will discuss drugs including the short and long term effects for users. We will also discuss some characteristics (behaviors) that you may see from an adolescent who uses and how those drugs may impact their education. Parents will also be informed of the legal consequences for their adolescent if caught with drugs.
Mr. Aaron Pelloquin, MA, Counselor- Trauma
In this session we will talk about trauma through the lens of hurt, absence, and triggers. We will explore these components of trauma and how each teenager might experience them differently, and potential signs to be aware of. While we look at trauma, we will also visit the topic of suicide.
Mrs. Emily Bardot, MA, Counselor- Middle School Conversations
Dr. Ferrell Roddy, Th.D., MBA- Power Tools For Power Struggles
Mrs. Kelly Storck, LCSW-Gender 101: Understanding and Supporting Trans and Non-Binary Youth
Trans and non-binary humans have existed throughout history and across cultures yet many of us are new to informed conversations about gender diversity, especially about trans and non-binary children. Most kids have no trouble accepting and embracing variations in gender and it's time we adults catch up! Join me to examine and dismantle old concepts of gender and rebuild gender-inclusive models that reflect the beauty and value of EVERY kid. Come full of curiosity and love, bring all the questions you've been afraid to ask.
