Greetings from Principal, Sherrie Encarnacion
Dear Mercer Families,
Laptops were handed out to all students this week and lockers were assigned to 6th and 7th graders. If your 8th grader needs a locker, please see Mr. Brown in room 209. All skateboards, scooters, and athletic equipment should be put away into a locker.
We had our first PTSA meeting online on Zoom and we would like to invite more families to join our next meeting on November 15. It is a great way to get engaged and connected with other families and with Mercer. Welcoming families to engage as partners is a primary goal of ours and we hope that you will be able to join us.
In partnership,
Sherrie Encarnacion, Principal

Open House: Thursday, September 29, 2022
The purpose of this evening is to learn about your student's classes and see their teachers. This is an evening for parent/guardian and their student. Students walk their family to classes and show them around. Teachers and counselors can arrange an individual meeting at a later date if you want to discuss your student.
Schedule
5:15 – 5:45pm Presentation for Multilingual Families & Presentation for Kingmakers
6:00 – 6:15pm Opening presentation for all students in the cafeteria
6:20pm Presentation 1 in Each Classroom
6:40pm Presentation 2 in Each Classroom
7:00pm Presentation 3 in Each Classroom
7:20pm Presentation 4 in Each Classroom
7:30pm Good night
- Families can listen to a presentation then float and visit other classrooms in between.
- If you don't get to hear a presentation, classrooms will be open for drop in visits for you to see where your student spends their day.
Parking
The Mercer parking lot is tough to get in and out. It is recommended that you park along 16th, at the community garden parking lot, across the street on Snoqualmie, at Jefferson and walk in on the path, or park in the neighborhoods.
Meet Katrina Herzog, Clinical Care Coordinator
Hello, my name is Katrina Herzog and I am honored to be the full-time child & family mental health professional from Sound mental health, called the Clinical Care Coordinator. I work with administrators, counselors, teachers, parents and caregivers to identify students whose social-emotional concerns are interfering with academic progress, and I will work with these students and their families to help them have a successful school year.
As part of my services, I “check in” with students who are showing signs of distress, assess their needs for additional support, and involve parents in the process of determining what resources will help students perform better in school. I will also help students who are distressed, isolated, or behind in their schoolwork while establishing links with counselors, tutors, and afterschool programs. Additionally, I meet with Mercer’s school support teams to bring a mental health perspective to discussions about our students’ needs and to provide consultation services.
Participation in the Middle School Support Program is voluntary. Identified students will be referred to the Middle School Support Program for an initial assessment. If this occurs, I will call you to discuss a plan for working together to best meet your students’ needs at school.
If you are interested in more information about the program, please feel free to contact me at (206) 591-6440. If you want to opt your child(ren) out of consideration for this particular support, please call (206) 252-8072.

Communication: Be sure that Mercer's (206)252 number is not blocked on your phone!
Phone Calls: Make sure that you are receiving phone calls from Seattle Public Schools. If you have not received a call from Seattle Public Schools about anything then our 252 number is likely blocked on your phone. Robocalls will give you information from Seattle Public Schools including school holidays, absences and tardies. If you are not receiving robocalls from Seattle Public Schools, please check your phone and unblock any number that begins with (206)252 and if you need more help, email a Grade-Level Administrator or Counselor for support.
