RSU 57 Community Newsletter

Message from the Superintendent
Dear RSU 57 Community,
I am delighted to connect with you through our Community Newsletter this week and hope this message finds each of you doing well and having had a pleasant weekend.
I want to take a moment to honor the significance of Veterans Day, which we recently commemorated. This day holds profound importance, serving as a reminder of the bravery and sacrifices of our veterans and their families. Their unwavering dedication to our nation's safety and freedom deserves our deepest gratitude and respect. Let us continue to acknowledge and appreciate their service, not just on Veterans Day but every day.
I am thrilled to report that our Professional Development Day on November 7th was a resounding success. With over 40 professional development sessions, our staff had the opportunity to engage in meaningful learning and growth that was personalized to their interests and needs. A special thank you goes to Mary Bellavance, our Director of Curriculum and Instruction, for her exceptional effort in organizing this event. The positive feedback from our staff is a testament to the day's impact and Mary's dedication to ensure our staff are provided high quality professional development opportunities.
Turning to our sports achievements, while our high school football team's season ended in the Regional Championship game against Kennebunk on Saturday, their performance throughout the season was nothing short of remarkable. Their hard work, team spirit, and resilience are commendable. You have made us all proud!
Also from our athletic fields, congratulations to our boys soccer team for being honored with the MPA Good Sportsmanship Award this fall! This award reflects not only their skill on the field but also their integrity, respect, and positive conduct, embodying the true spirit of sportsmanship.
I am also pleased to share that our high school has successfully concluded a NEASC visit this past week, ensuring the school’s accreditation remains in excellent standing. The commendations received from the visiting committee highlight the strengths of our school, and their recommendations offer valuable guidance for future improvements. This achievement is a collective effort, reflecting the hard work and dedication of our staff over a period of years. Congratulations to Principal Thurlow and the entire MHS staff for this successful accreditation visit.
Looking ahead, I would like to invite you to our community forum on November 14 at 7pm. This event is an opportunity for us to engage in meaningful dialogue, share ideas, and foster community spirit. You can join us in person at our East Building on the MHS Campus or via the livestream on our YouTube channel.
In closing, I am filled with optimism about the direction of our district. The achievements we celebrate, the challenges we overcome, and the community we build together, all contribute to a vibrant and dynamic educational environment. Let us continue to collaborate with families and the greater RSU 57 community as we work towards a future filled with promise and potential.
With sincere gratitude and best wishes,
Dr. Stephen Marquis
RSU 57 Celebrates Veteran's Day
National Bus Safety Flyer Winner
During the week of October 16-20, students across RSU 57 celebrated National Bus Safety Week by creating flyers that showed what "Safely Rolling to My Destination" means to them. Our Transportation staff had the opportunity to view all of the incredible designs and vote for their favorite. This year's Grand Prize Winner is Ava Stevens of Shapleigh Memorial School! Ava's design will be featured on the 2024 National Bus Safety Flyer and displayed in buses across the district! Well done, Ava! (pictured below)
Line School Students Learn About Conservation
Line School would like to recognize Peter Zach, the Vice President of the Frances Small Heritage Trust, for his recent work with our second grade learners. Mr. Zach led three field trips to local protected land off Bridge Street in early October. He taught our students about animal and plant identification, the meaning of conservation, and what they can do as good citizens to take care of our community. Students and staff had a wonderful time. Thank you, Mr. Zach, for helping to grow our student citizens! (pictured below)
