- The Dr. James A. Forrest Career & Technology Center will host its eighteenth annual Forrest Center Tech Expo, Thursday, January 18th between 5:30-8:00 p.m. at the Forrest Center directly across from the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds in Leonardtown, Maryland.

The purpose of the Forrest Tech Center Expo is to familiarize students and parents with Career and Technology Education career options offered by the St. Mary’s County Public Schools. This is an opportunity to meet the staff at the Forrest Center and to learn about the 24 completer programs and the four elective courses currently offered. High school counselors will be available to answer questions about career clusters and to assist students in planning their academic program. The Forrest Center will provide a special presentation for parents to explain the registration process and how to incorporate Forrest Center programs into their student’s schedule.

AP Testing:

SAT Testing for all 11th Grade Students:
- The following message is intended for parents/guardians of 11th grade Leonardtown High School students.
- This year, St. Mary's County Public Schools will be paying for all 11th grade students to take the SAT. All 11th grade, diploma-bound, Leonardtown High School students will be automatically registered to take the SAT here at Leonardtown High School on March 7th, 2018. The SAT will take place during the school day (periods 1 through 5) and will be administered to all 11th grade students free of charge.
- The attached presentation below contains information that was shared with 11th grade students during their English class. The presentation contains information regarding the March 7th SAT as well as free SAT-prep resources that we highly encourage all students to take advantage of during their preparation for taking this very important test.
- Please note, students that have testing accommodations per their IEP or 504 plan will NOT be provided with testing accommodations for the SAT unless they have been approved for collegeboard testing accommodations. Students with IEP or 504 testing accommodations who wish to be considered for collegeboard testing accommodations must submit the attached consent form and should consult with Ms. Otto (IEP) or Ms. Cline (504) - in office 2E44 - no later than December 1, 2017.
- Questions regarding the March 7th SAT can be directed to Mr. Graham Coombs - Assistant Principal - Testing Coordinator.
- Questions regarding testing accommodations can be directed to Ms. Melanie Otto - IEP Facilitator or Ms. Rebecca Cline - Assistant Principal - IEP/504 Coordinator.
APEX
APEX Quarter Recovery Marking Period 2
- APEX Quarter Recovery will start Tuesday, February 13th, 2018. Students must be eligible with a 45-59% in their failing course.
- Students will participate in APEX Quarter Recovery during their lunch period (either A or B lunch, daily until they are done or the time has ended).
- Participation during the school day is mandatory, and if a student misses two sessions, the student may be removed from the program.
- Students MUST return the completed application to Mrs. Abell in Guidance no later than Friday, February 9th . Classes begin on Tuesday, February 13th.

- ASVAB interpreter will be here on January 30th, please stop by the career center to sign up or email tlhazlegrove@smcps.org
- HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) College and Career Fair will be held on February 9th, sign up sheet is in the career center.
- The College and Career Center will be offering another SAT prep class starting on February 2, 2018, the cost is $175. Those who are interested can pick up a form in the career center. The deadline to register is January 26, 2018.
