PTO Update

The Lakeview PTO is in the midst of a transition year, and that transition has been productive and successful. A blend of outgoing, 5th grade parent leadership is working together with families of younger students to continue the tradition of family engagement at Lakeview.

Perhaps the biggest project of the PTO this year has been to establish the PTO as a formal, 501(c)(3) organization, complete with bylaws and elected officers. We are very proud that, at this month's meeting, the PTO completed the new bylaws. This will pave the wave for the election of officers at the May meeting and the completion of some legal paperwork this Summer. In the end, the PTO will be able to seek donations from businesses, who are more likely to give to formal organizations. Here are two things you can do:

#1 - Read the newly established bylaws in the document below.

#2 - Come to our next PTO meeting on Thursday, March 14 from 6-7 p.m. in the Lakeview library. This would be a great time to get involved!

Superintendent Search Meeting

If you grew up as a student in South Milwaukee, you may have had Dr. Rita Olson as a teacher at some point. We are grateful for Dr. Olson's many years of service to the district, and her leadership is recognized throughout the area. At the end of June, Dr. Olson will retire. As part of the process to find a new superintendent, the school board will hold a listening session on Wednesday, February 20, from 5:30-6:45 in the board room at the high school. Any SM parent or community member is welcome to attend and provide input.
