Instructional Focus
Planning/Data Meetings
Great job in meetings this week! We are doing so well with following the structure of our meetings to ensure that we are intentional with our instruction and that we are meeting the needs of our scholars. See below for a list of "glows and grows" to help us to continue to perfect this process!
"glows" were:
- that you guys have done a great job of coming into meetings with the pre-work already done.
- Already determining the specific skill, knowledge, or concept with reviewing of scholar work, which helped the focus to be on the the misconceptions or gaps that need to be addressed.
- Know/show charts used! If you have a concerns about the use of paper, you can project as well.
- stamping/naming the error and conceptual understanding
"grows" were:
- When stamping/naming the error ensure that reteaching is "specific" to what you addressed in know/show chart.
- The purpose is to ensure we reteach specifically what has been diagnosed as the misconception and misunderstanding, not the entire standard.
- Really look at plans and discuss the where it fits, what it looks like, and how it will be reassessed to ensure that reteaching was effective.

Word Consciousness/ IB
IB
This week Mrs. Grisham’s class will help us understand the significance and application of a new IB attitude, Enthusiasm. Someone who exemplifies this attitude enjoys learning and willingly puts the effort into the process. Below are some ideas for morning meeting topics to discuss with your scholars this week:
- To be enthusiastic means to be really excited about something. What are some things that you are enthusiastic about doing?
- Yesterday you learned about lots of things that your classmates are enthusiastic about doing. You probably talked about sports or playing with friends or other hobbies that you enjoy. Now let’s think about what things in school specifically you are enthusiastic about. How does being enthusiastic about school make learning even more fun?
- How can you show enthusiasm today in approaching problems or new ideas?
Word Consciousness
This week we are continuing with suffixes. A suffix is a word part that comes at the end of a word and changes its meaning. This week’s word part is “LESS”. LESS means without.
LESS (without)
Hopeless
Legless
Waterless
Useless
Shoeless
Joyless
Ambitionless
Helpless

Scholar Attendance
Attendance Contest
As you all know, having scholars present at school each day is extremely important for their growth and achievement. It is also important that they are present because it affects our school funding! In order to invest scholars in their attendance, we will be starting a monthly competition for the grade level with the best attendance. Each week, I will include a snapshot of the attendance percentages for each grade and the grade level with the highest percentage by the end of the month will earn a teacher and scholar free dress day!
Shout out to 1st grade in the lead for the month of December!
