WELCOME SCHWEITZER LIONS!
On behalf of the entire staff at Schweitzer Elementary, we would like to welcome you to the 2018-2019 school year! Each year the first days of school bring excitement for new friends, new teachers, and the building of new relationships. Our driving goal is to build positive relationships with our students and parents so that we can make learning meaningful and engaging.
This year our school will be focusing on problem-based learning and continued technology integration in our 1:1 school environment aligned with our district's Strategic Plan. We will utilize iPads in Grades K-1 and Chromebooks in Grades 2 through 4 to collaborate and create using technology as a tool. Teachers will also be involved in Professional Learning Communities to consistently meet to review student data and align instructional practices to provide students with what they need to learn.
We hope your family is enjoying getting into your new routines and look forward to a successful school year! See you at Back-to-School Night!
Take care,
Dr. Amy Orlando

#StandUpNeshaminy
At Back-to-School Night, you will receive cards for #StandUpNeshaminy. It's never too early to prevent substance abuse. Get together with your kids before drugs do!
#StandUp Neshaminy is a wide coalition of concerned parents, educators, administrators, community leaders, municipal and county officials, law enforcement and rehabilitation professionals dedicated to the prevention of drug abuse through education in Neshaminy schools and in the community. Bucks County, like much of the nation, is facing an epidemic of opioid abuse like nothing seen before. It affects families in every neighborhood regardless of income, race, gender or age.
The website also has help resources, more informational videos, FAQs, and ways you can help. Together we can make a difference and keep our kids safe, strong and healthy!

Title I: Right to Request Teacher Qualifications
As a parent of a student attending a school that is receiving Federal Title I dollars, you have the right to know the professional qualifications of the teacher(s) and instructional paraprofessional(s) who instruct your child.
Federal law requires every Title I school district to comply and to provide you with the requested information in a timely manner. We are happy to provide this information to you. At any time, you may ask:
Whether the teacher met state qualifications and certification requirements for the grade level and subject he/she is teaching,
Whether the teacher received an emergency or conditional certificate through which state qualifications were waived, and
What undergraduate or graduate degrees the teacher holds, including graduate certificates and additional degrees, and major(s) or area(s) of concentration.
You may also ask whether your child receives help from a paraprofessional. If your child receives this assistance, we can provide you with information about the paraprofessional's qualifications. Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) which was signed into law in December 2015 and reauthorizes the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1956 (ESEA) includes additionally right to know requests. At any time, parents and family members can request:
Information on policies regarding student participation in assessments and procedures for opting out, and
Information on required assessments that include:
subject matter tested,
purpose of the test,
source of the requirement (if applicable),
amount of time it takes students to complete the test, and
time and format of disseminating results.
