Wednesday January 25 - Future Freshman Night. This in-person event focuses on academic classes, especially elective choices. The doors open at 6pm with the presentation beginning at 6:30. Following the short opening there will be breakout sessions and an electives course fair to visit.
Thursday January 26 - Placement emails come out to families. In this email you'll see initial core class placements and a Google form for submitting elective course choices. You'll want to submit that Google form before the students visit with LT counselors.
Tuesday January 31 - LT Counselors visit McClure. Each student will have an opportunity to meet with an LT counselor to review course selections. Students should come having submitted elective choices via the Google form and should bring their completed course selection worksheet.
*Students with IEP plans may meet with a counselor, but do not need to.
**It is preferred that all students meet with LT, even those who do not plan to attend LT. It is easier to remove a student from a class than to create a new seat in sections that have already been set up.
Friday February 17 - Last day to contact LT for core or elective course changes.
Check out this fridge-sheet from LT for more upcoming events
McClure on the Mic!
This week our bulldogs focus on past memories from their time at McClure, events to look forward to, plans in high school and advice to 6th & 7th graders. Counseling Corner
In my 6th-grade Choices class, career exploration is one of the units we study. The first question I ask them is, “What do you want to be when you grow up and why?” The answer to this question fascinates me, as it speaks volumes about what these kids are into, their interests, perceived talents, and dreams. In years past, the answers were all very predictable for the age group: Professional athlete, doctor, lawyer, engineer, fashion designer, you get the gist. But this year, one new career path entered the scene that’s never been a contender before…social media influencer. Kids spend all this time on social media apps, digesting tons of content from people they know but don’t really know. And these people have a larger impact on our kids than we think!

Holiday Gift Fund
Thank you again to everyone who contributed to the McClure Holiday Gift Fund in December. Teachers and Staff were showered with gift cards (as is tradition) before the holiday break, but your generous contributions also funded a fully-catered "Bring Back the Cheer!" surprise faculty luncheon today, where every staff member also received a McClure insulated tumbler stocked with a $10 Starbucks Gift Card. We were thrilled to be able to extend your generosity into the new year! Thank you!

Community Events
From the Lyons Township High School Girls in Engineering, Math, and Science (GEMS) club. GEMS was founded to support girls in the community with an interest in engineering, math, and science through mentorship, career guidance, and real-world experience. On Saturday, February 11, 2023, we would like to invite your students to our event, “Introduce a Girl to STEM Day”, which will grant your passionate girls a lens on STEM in High School. Girls who attend will participate in two STEM sessions, hear from high school girls aspiring STEM women, and finish the afternoon reflecting on their experience. We hope to get as many middle school girls involved as possible. Online registration will be available from December 5, 2022, until February 1, 2023. Please see this flyer for additional information.
