### 02.13.16

WE ENJOYED OUR VALENTINES AFTERNOON. WE HANDED OUT OUR GIFTS AND CARDS AND ATE SOME DELICIOUS SNACKS! THANK YOU FOR SENDING IN YOUR VALENTINES AND TREATS! IT WAS A NICE BREAK FOR US.

## NEXT WEEK

MATH: On Monday we will be reviewing the unit test - the students did really well it! We will go over some of the questions before we move onto properties. We will be working on the associative, identity and commutative properties with number. This can be tricky to start with. The week after we will be going back to area and perimeter and working on using the distributive method for complex/compound shapes.

READING: Continuing with our non-fiction unit, next week we will be working on immersing ourselves with non-fiction texts and enjoying discussions about different topics. We are also focusing on the types of questions we may see in the EOG's. When reading non-fiction texts with your child, please discuss with them why the author has used a map - what does it tell us? Can you answer a certain question using the chart? etc. These are skills we are working on in guided read groups.

SOCIAL STUDIES: The students are completing a project about an influential African American of their choice. They were able to choose from some amazing scientists, musicians, authors.

** Homework - Please sign your child's agenda on a daily basis to show that your child has completed that night's homework. I expect homework to be turned in on time. Every Monday we write all the homework in our agenda so we know when it is due in. Also, please try and let your child do the homework by themselves, but then check it over with them. We go through homework every day so the children are aware of how they should answer the questions.

On Friday, we will be visiting the 4th grade wax museum. This is an excellent project that all the 4th grade students have been working on. They have researched and prepared information about a famous person. When our class visit, they will drop some coins into the container and the 'wax person' will come alive and tell the children all about their person. The money raised will go towards a charity. This is a really fun activity and our class can see what they will be doing next year too! Please send in some coins that your child can use for this event. Thank you.

## BOX TOPS

Please save your box tops and turn them in at any point during the term!
