During Writer’s Workshop, the students will begin a new unit “Writing to Respond". We will begin this unit by reviewing books. We will use mentor texts to learn how a review allows a writer to respond to a book in a positive or negative way. We will learn the features of a great response; it should include the title and author, an opinion, and connections to the book that include details from the text. A response should also have an ending with a summary about what the writer thought of the book, and it should include feeling words. The students will learn these features in a sequential manner as they practice each step to a good response!
