Beijing is the capital of China, the population of Beijing in 2012 was about 20 693 000.
Geography
China is located in Eastern Asia. The total size of China is about 9,596,960 km2. It's made up of 9,326,410 km2 of land and 270,550 km2 of water. China is divided into many 5 climate zones in the south it is tropical, while the east is temperate and the Tibetan Plateau is cold and arid. The northern deserts are also arid and the northeast is cold temperate.
People
The population of china in 2012 was 1.351 billion and the three major religions in Chinese culture are Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism. The main language in China is mandarin but some of the older people speak other languages.
Natural Resources
Besides being a major producer of coal, China also exports iron ore, petroleum, natural gas, mercury, tin, tungsten, antimony, manganese, molybdenum, vanadium, magnetite, aluminum, lead, zinc and uranium.
Health
China has improved life expectancy and reduced the death toll from common diseases in the last 50 years. They are also investing a lot of money in research to help make a cure for the diseases that are killing people in China.
Economy
China is the second largest economy in the world and the 18th fastest growing economy. The economic structure of China is made up of 10.1% agriculture, 45.3% industry and 44.6% services.
History Highlights
The history goes back 5,000 years before now and the first non-mythical dynasty to rule China was the Xia. After him there was 8 more dynasty's that ruled China until the Qing, who ruled from 1644 until 1911, was overthrown by the Sun Yat-Sen. Starting the Chinese civil war.
Education
By law children have to attend at least 9 years of schooling. China is seeking to improve it's education structure, now 20% of college age people attend higher education. Teaching was and still is a highly respected profession.
Environmental Issues
Logging, fishing and hunting to meet demands of the Chinese market pose threats to countries as far away as Africa. It is estimated that by 2025 the nation will be the world’s leading producer of greenhouse gases and about 40% of the water in the country's river systems is unfit for human consumption. While some progress has been achieved in improving energy efficiency and carbon dioxide emissions reduction, 75% of energy production is still dependent on coal.
Living Conditions
Before 1949 there was poverty, extreme income inequalities and high unemployment. During the 50's and 60's the Peoples Republic have been able the give the entire population at least the minimal needs of life. Since the 1980's they have been able to afford luxuries that they weren't able to buy before.
