The Tiger Times
Week of March 5 through March 9
Hello Tiger Family!
I watched this video and boy, did it speak to me and the incredible power that lies in each of our circles of influence. We have the power to connect with our kids and make them feel seen. I challenge each and every one of us to make this connection with a student or staff member this week. Tell someone they matter to you, they inspire you, motivate you... that because they are here, this house is a different house....a stronger house!
I'm grateful every day for your passion, your dedication, your willingness to question and grow...grateful that you show up every day to give every kid the best shot they've got at extraordinary.
Blessed and blissed to be your principal,
Shelley

Timberline's Big Three
- Relationships so that we can significantly impact discipline and learning!
- Tier 1 instruction because the teacher is THE best person to provide initial instruction and the first time students get this instruction is their very best chance of learning it!
A Vertical Look at Tier 1 Writing
TEKS mastery is a cumulative process...the things students are required to demonstrate mastery of in 2nd require mastery of TEKS as they're stated in kinder and first. Students' chances of being more successful with 4th grade TEKS are significantly greater with the progressive foundation of PreK, kinder, first, second and third grade TEKS. This is one of the reasons we've maintained such a strong focus on learning targets this year, engaged in conversations around instructional time and it is why we're shifting the focus of resources and support to include PreK through 2nd grades as well as 3rd - 5th!
EYE OF THE TIGER!
Victoria, thank you for stepping in as basketball coach for our Tigers Monday...and doing it on such short notice. -Shelley
Audra, thank you for being willing to do the hard work of learning how the new website "works" so the staff didn't have to. And thank you for offering to create and present a training at Timberline...just so our staff would have another option for training. -Shelley
Thank you to all the teachers that provided feedback on the Timberline Survey. The vast majority of feedback received was a constructive and professional balance of reflecting on the growth we've made, suggestions for making things like PLC even better and offering ideas for next steps. Next steps for Learning Targets was my favorite one to read! Thank you for being the kind of teachers that know constructive feedback is a good thing for everyone because everyone's trying their best and everyone wants to be as good as they possibly be. -Shelley
Thank you, Sloan and Jade for working on a class picture schedule. It's not easy to do -juggling lunch schedules and conferences and TELPAS testing. And it's not something people jump up volunteering to do :D I appreciate your time! -Shelley
Thank you, Britt, Maggie, Claudia, Nicole and Jade for all you did Friday for one of our Tiger family. The bond we have at Timberline just gets that much stronger when one of us is need...it's one of the things I love most about our school. -Shelley
To our incredible SPED team - thank you for pitching in for our kiddos when we have people out. Your dedication to our students is valued and appreciated! -Shelley
RISE team - thank you for what you've done for all of our kiddos this year but in particular helping uncover the strong voice of a student whose only word at the beginning of the year was "No!" You've changed his world! -Shelley
Nuts and Bolts is our "virtual faculty meeting". Please read all information carefully and reach out if you have any questions or need clarification.
The district deadline for your Timberline website page to be updated is prior to March 19th. Please refer to previous Tiger Times for the remaining training dates & webinars. (There are no remaining campus trainings available.) See Audra's email from Wed, Feb 28, 2018 at 8:13 AM (provided to help search) for tutorials, screencasts, etc. she's created and other helpful advice.
Staff, there are still ongoing incidents with the bathrooms, particularly the boys', this past week. Please put the following in place as we continue working to resolve this problem.
1. Teachers take their classes to the restroom as a group where possible.
2. Continue to have students sign in on classroom bathroom logs!
3. Teachers assign bathroom monitor jobs to the kids.
4. Be mindful of how long students are in the bathroom. Some of the things that are occurring reflect quite a bit of time in the bathroom.
I don't want to go completely to classroom bathroom breaks yet but is the the one option that ensures the best supervision in bathrooms.
Former student visits -From Allen Smith, district emergency and safety director: Ask him to make an appointment with the teacher and stop by the front office and check in. Obvious we won’t be able to Raptor, but must make sure we know their whereabouts in the building.
All staff attends the March 6 Mandatory STAAR training in the cafeteria at 3:30.
Paraprofessional teachers are not required to attend Open House Leadership Night this Thursday. To all other staff, please read the email about Leadership Night carefully as it has very helpful information for you! It's titled Lighthouse sent Wed, Feb 28, 2018 at 9:55 PM (to help search :)
Sharpen the Saw Club Day - look for email from Sloan this week with information about Friday's schedule for Day 3 of AWESOMENESS!!
TELPAS writing must be turned in to Nicole before you leave for the break!
