NEW - “Not for Profit” Summer Internship Awards
These awards have been introduced to allow students to take up internships in organisations which are not-for-profit and therefore do not usually offer paid opportunities. The main purposes of the voluntary, charitable or social organisation offering the opportunity should be either humanitarian or environmental. The internships that will be considered for an award can vary in terms of type, duration and geographical location. Unpaid research internships in a university will be considered. This is to encourage participation from a diverse range of students who are not catered for by the internships typically offered by commercial or large public sector organisations.
The award can fund travel expenses and/or living costs of up to £1000. During the internship, the student must contribute to “graduate” level work, this means it should be project based with defined tasks and definite outcomes. This will ensure the student is better placed to pursue their career options after graduation, both in terms of their work understanding as well as in demonstrable, relevant experience.
Criteria:
- Available to matriculated undergraduate students of the University of St Andrews who are not in their final year.
- Internship must offer “graduate” level work – (see above)
- Internship must be overseen by named supervisor/manager.
- Full award normally for 4 weeks duration or more.
- Applications to work as paying volunteers at non-profit organisations whose primary income derives from students’ fees will not usually be considered.
- The committee will not award a travel scholarship to a country where the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advised against travelling
- Applicants may also apply for the Rector’s fund but may not accept awards from both the Rector’s fund and the Not for Profit Summer Internship Awards.
Closing date: 30 April 2017.
