The ELC preschool finished the Transportation theme this week. We learned about all kinds of transportation - bus, truck, canoe, ferry, tugboat, train, airplane, hot air balloon, etc. We also talked about traffic signs/lights and roads.

Using Lego Blocks To Create Unique Binary Codes
In continuing to learn about coding, Ms. McCumber’s 5th-grade classroom has begun to explore binary code. Binary code is a 2-symbol system that represents text. These symbols are typically “0” and “1”. For instance, the letter “A” would be “01000001”. Students are creating their own binary code using Lego blocks which they will then use to create a message for their classmates to decipher!

"The Gift of Music"
December 15, 2021 - 3:00 & 6:00 pm
Mrs. Jo: Founder of WeJoySing Inc.
As we enter a time of gift-giving, we are going to focus on the gift of MUSIC! It can be soothing or energizing, induce sleep or get us moving and engaged. Music engages multiple areas of the brain at the same time and actually aids in overall development. Whether experienced through sound or vibration, our children can gain so many important skills through the use of music.
Find a comfy spot with your child and experience a music class in the comfort of your own home. We welcome guest Mrs. Jo Kirk – founder of WeJoySing Inc., which provides music therapy and early childhood music-based learning for children and their families. Come sing along with us and explore the many ways to incorporate music throughout your daily routines. Contact Jenni Remeis to register for this event. jremeis@osdb.oh.gov

New Higher Education-Focused Partnership Announced for Future Columbus City Schools Graduates
New Initiative Gives Graduating Seniors Full Scholarship to Columbus State Community College
Columbus City Schools leaders recently joined the City of Columbus, Columbus State Community College, I Know I Can, and business leaders to announce an initiative aimed at Columbus City Schools seniors and soon-to-be graduates. The new program, the Columbus Promise, will provide free tuition for CCS seniors to attend Columbus State and continue their education after high school. Columbus Promise launches this school year, and current seniors will be able to submit online applications starting in mid-November.
“We know the reality is that all students may not attend a four-year university, but we want students to understand college is a real and attainable goal,” said Superintendent/CEO Dr. Talisa Dixon. “The Columbus Promise presents a historic opportunity for Columbus City Schools students and families. This initiative is a promise and commitment from our city leaders and partners that creates a new pathway to higher education for students, and the education and experiences they gain at Columbus State will open countless doors in emerging career fields.”
The Columbus Promise is modeled after national promise programs with a local vision for creating new college and career opportunities for CCS students. Graduating seniors can attend Columbus State full or part-time enrolled in a two-year degree or certificate program. There is no minimum high school GPA requirement for eligibility; however, students must maintain a 2.0 GPA to remain eligible to keep their Columbus Promise scholarship. In addition to tuition and fee assistance, Columbus Promise Scholars will receive $1,000 annually for transportation, books, and other living expenses.

Ohio Center for DeafBlind Education Presents Melinda Wolford
Considerations for Families, Caretakers and Educators Unique to Children with Deafblindness and Low Incidence Disabilities Presented by Melinda Wolford, PhD, NCSP Families, caretakers, and educators of children with multiple sensory deficits and lower incidence disabilities are presented with unique challenges that include significant support necessities. Burdens of the disability-related complications and lack of education or training can erode resilience and energy in those attending to the child. Finding balance as the requirements, matters, and issues related to the child’s care and advocacy are typically ever-changing and often unpredictable.
Considerations for Families, Caretakers and Educators Unique to Children with Deaf Blindness and Low Incidence Disabilities is a 3-part webinar series designed to tackle and address some of the critical issues and obstacles for those immersed in these extraordinary circumstances.
