The Puma Pride
Week of January 21, 2019
Message from the Principal
I hope everyone is staying warm. Fortunately, the predicted snow storm did not hit our area. As I visited classrooms this week, students were learning about the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. Friday's snow event provided an opportunity for various learning activities with a snow theme.
It was great seeing so many families at the Candy Bar Bingo on Friday evening. Thank you to our Home & School volunteers for running a fantastic and fun family event. Congratulations to all the winners!
The coming week will be a busy one despite only having four days of school. On January 24, the students will participate in an assembly that emphasizes kindness-The Ned Show. Students will have the opportunity to purchase hand-crafted items from Kenya so that the show can continue to reach school students across the globe free of charge. Later in the afternoon, our fifth-grade students who earned a spot will compete in the National Spelling Bee competition.
Our Honors Band, Orchestra, and Choral students began practicing on Tuesdays and Wednesdays after school at McDonald Elementary School in preparation for Fine Arts Week. Reach out to Mr. Bauerle or Mr. Regosch if you have any questions.
The Drama Club is in full swing. Participants meet on Thursdays after school to rehearse for the annual musical. This year, the students will perform Beauty and the Beast. Stay tuned for more information coming soon. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Martin.
The MLK Day of Service has been rescheduled to January 30 (day off for students). If you are interested in helping out, please the see the information below and reach out to Mrs. Kerber.
Enjoy the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday tomorrow and have a great week. Stay warm!

Cradles to Crayons RESCHEDULED to Wednesday, January 30
Service Project Opportunity, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., for all Willow Dale students & families
Between now and January 30, 2019, our school will be holding our annual used children’s clothing and equipment drive for:
Cradles to Crayons
Cradles to Crayons is a local organization that provides, free of charge, the basic essentials that low-income and homeless children need to be safe, warm, valued, and ready to learn.
Here’s how you and your whole family can help:
Bring in gently used or new items (see list);
Come to WDES on Wednesday, 1/30/19, 9 – 12 noon, to sort and bag all the donations; and/or
Volunteer to drive to the C2C local site to drop off our school’s donations that same day.
We need to know who can help on MLK Day, (all children must be accompanied by an adult), and who is willing to drive to the drop-off site. If you would like to volunteer for either or both, please let Mrs. Kerber know at: kerbha@centennialsd.org.
Sponsored by Willow Dale’s No Place for Hate Committee.
Dunkin' Dales versus the Harlem Wizards
Save the date! On Thursday, March 28th, at 6:30 PM Willow Dale staff members will be facing off against the Harlem Wizards. Come to William Tennent and watch our "Dunkin' Dales" play an epic game of basketball. Tickets will be sold prior to the event for $8.00 a person. Night-of-event tickets will be $10.00 a person. Refreshments and merchandise will be available for purchase at the game.
