The Westmoreland Wrap Up
September 30, 2022
As we move into the month of October, we are very excited for an upcoming assembly program which will take place in each classroom on October 6th, 7th and 12th. We are very grateful to the Westmoreland PTO for funding this unique and meaningful program for our students.
The program is entitled "Kindness Through Creatures" and aligns with our commitment to increasing awareness regarding diversity, inclusion and acceptance. During this program, students will enjoy classroom visits from 4 animal ambassadors. Some additional information describing the program and it's purpose can be found below as well as a parent letter from the presenter.
We can't wait for our special guests to arrive. MANY pictures to follow!
Diversity Program: Kindness Through Creatures
9.4.5.GCA.1, 9.1.2.CR.1, 9.1.2.CR.2, 9.1.5.CR.1
Social issues often arise from distrust, fear, or lack of knowledge. This program highlights the diversity in our animals and asks the students to reevaluate any preconceived ideas they have. The goal is to have students rethink their fears or misconceptions about animals like snakes and tarantulas and consider approaching them with kindness and respect instead. We then challenge students to translate the same approach when interacting with their peers.

Pizza orders are due by Monday, October 3rd. This will cover student's pizza lunch on half days through December 23rd.
We are so grateful for the many parents who volunteer their time to help plan, chair and organize fun events for our families and students. We are always looking for more hands and helpers! Please visit the two sign up documents below for class parent volunteers and committee help.
Thank you,
The Westmoreland PTO
Socktober
Evacuation Drill
During the month of October, our school will practice an evacuation drill. In the event we had an emergency which would not allow us to return to our school building, we would walk to the Fair Lawn Senior Center. We will be practicing this drill during, the month of October, with assistance from Fair Lawn Emergency Management Services. This is an unannounced drill; therefore, we will not have notice as to when it will occur.
