Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum
- All BAS content areas, courses, grade levels are currently in review process
- K-12 Curr. Study Groups launched to align curriculum, update instruction, and revise assessments
- Study Group work will culminate in piloting new materials and proposing adoptions
- Science is piloting materials; World Language is ready to pilot; Social Studies is waiting for state adoption. AP Books at BHS need purchasing updates
- 100+ non-elective courses have been revised, aligned with standards, updated programs of study since 2016
- Updated courses and curriculum to be viewable on new District Website by spring 2018

- 30 hours of Professional Development for all staff that included:
- K-4 Staff received Social Emotional training using the MI Model of Health

- NWEA for grades 4-8 (and students on IEPs at BHS)
- Lexia Core Reading screening and intervention program for school and home
- Achieve 3000 reading and writing online learning support
- Common Local Assessments for K-12 Math, K-12 ELA, K-12 Science, and K-12 Social Studies
- Developing Common Performance Based Assessments for K-12 Fine Arts and related elective courses
- Expanding Illuminate Data Management System to warehouse assessment data
- Data Analysis Meetings K-12 (quarterly or by trimester)
- Student Learning Objectives (SLOs) connect student growth with educator evaluations

- 2016-17 district initiated Instructional Initiatives Communicators (i2 Communicators) -- 5 reps from each K-4 building meet to identify needs and design solutions/programs related to initiatives
- Increased numbers of staff applying for grants to support instructional innovation and student ingenuity (MI Design Council Prize, ICT Transco Grant, HURCO Grant, MDE Robotics and STEM grants, BOE Innovation Grants
Legislative Requirments: 3rd Grade Reading Law
- Implementing requirements of PA 306 (3rd Grade Reading Law) ... NWEA (Northwest Evaluation Association) for a more efficient and reliable screening of reading and math skills, Individual Reading Plans, Home Reading Plans, Early Literacy Coaches
- All K-4 Schools have an Early Literacy Coach
- Schools are hosting Early Literacy Parent Nights
- Schools are building Early Literacy Websites to support strong literacy practices at home
Educator Evaluations
- 2016 launched full implementation of Danielson Educator Evaluation Framework
- Staff and administrators participated in MDE required # of hours of training
- All staff design Student Learning Objectives (SLOs) based on MDE approved model with resulting target growth goal. 20% of evaluation is based on percent of students reaching the goal after instruction
- All staff use Frontline online management system to store evaluation artifacts and record progress

Social Emotional Programming
- 2016-17 School Improvement Leadership Collaborative (SILC) devoted year doing needs assessment on BAS Social Emotional needs and programming
- Each building is designing or implementing their own Social Emotional program by the end of this year
- Examples: Hawkins (Leader in Me), Hilton/Hornung/Spencer (Conscious Discipline), Maltby/Scranton/BHS/Bridge (Reaching Higher)
- Parent information seminars on anxiety/mental health, social media
- Health Advisory Committee Newsletter and Parent Education Offerings
Enrichment Programming
- Added Academic Enrichment Coaches for grades 2-6 for increased contact time
- Reorganized Magnet (grades 2-4) as "Cluster" teams in every elem school (includes Magnet Time and Magnet Math, as well as cross district extracurr. activities.
- Converted K-4 Media Centers into STEAM Centers with full time librarians who deliver enrichment to all elementary students K-4 (Project Lead the Way, ELA enrichment, Maker Space, etc.)
- Expanded First Lego Leagues and Jr. Lego Leagues for grades K-6 across district (17 teams)
- World Language (Hornung/Spencer) and Fine Arts Enrichment (Hawkins) offered where schedules allow
