Courtyard Lunch Assignments for the week of 4/4/2022

Big picture

Special Welcome to our new family Members!

Jessica Suarez - Parent Support Specialist

I am new to the city coming from Las Vegas, Nevada and am excited to start on a new journey here in Austin. I enjoy spending time outdoors and with my family.

Lori Castro - Book Keeper (Expected start date 4/18/2022)

I'm married with two grown children which are my pride and joy. My hobbies are whatever my children choose for me that day, week, month or year. But the best part is going through the adventure with them. I ended up here at AISD in a round about way. I worked at the Secretary of State's office until retiring in 2018 but before doing so I started working for the athletic department at sporting events, then helped in the office after retiring and came to work here at Athletics as soon as I possibly could! It has been an amazing experience with amazing folks and I'm now ready to meet new amazing folks at Kealing! Truth be told...I have ordered RED tennis shoes for spirit days already! Can't wait to meet you all.

Principal's Message to Hornet Families for the week of 4/4/2022

Great evening fantastic families,

Can you believe Spring break was a full 2 weeks ago? It’s crazy how fast time flies in the Spring. Although things are moving quickly, we want to be intentional about creating the best learning experience for our scholars. We have many upcoming events for all students but especially our 8th graders who will never be middle school again. This Friday our algebra II club has a movie night fundraiser that starts at 6p and will be showing the classic movie Shrek. Then we have our Spring Fling April 22nd. This past week had an opportunity to engage our teachers in staff development collaboratively designed by the campus administration, Instructional coaches, and Austin ISD Cultural Proficiency and Inclusion Department. We want to create the most optimal learning environment for our scholars so we have administrators, teachers, and student leaders attending sessions which will strengthen our campus and make it a safe environment for all.

I am also still working through the action plan to improve our campus' climate and culture. The April 1st professional development session was coordinated by our amazing campus instructional coaches, which was one of the actions of the plan (create opportunities for instructional coaches to drive professional learning). On Friday, I also sent our biweekly climate and culture survey, we will close submissions Monday afternoon at 4p. I was also able to retrieve our final exit surveys from teachers who are no longer at Kealing Middle School. I will discuss the results and next steps at the upcoming principal's coffee. This upcoming week we have Tennis, Track, and a COVID Vaccine Clinic amongst other events. It’s a busy time but we are thankful to have the opportunity to participate in all these activities this year. Thank you for choosing Kealing Middle School and Austin ISD, feel free to reach out to me directly for any reason at all: jerald.wilson@austinisd.org

Announcements!

8th Grade Celebration Update!

The 8th grade celebration is scheduled for Tuesday, May 24 on campus during the school day. It's a fun-filled day for Kealing's graduating 8th graders complete with special t-shirts, yearbook signing, snacks and lunch, outdoor games, rock wall climbing, an inflatable obstacle course, and more!

This is a student event but parents will be needed to help make it happen. PTA will be looking for volunteers on and around the day of the event to help contribute snacks, set up, clean up, and chaperone. Watch for those sign-ups later in April.

One immediate need is to secure and finalize plans for lunch at the party. If you're connected with a local restaurant or caterer that could help provide a yummy spread, please contact Jen Loving (jen.loving@gmail.com).

Thank you!

Questions regarding the t-shirt design or party? Please go to the Social Groups area on Konstella and join the 8th Grade Party group for conversation there (as per usual, please DO NOT message all of 8th grade - Konstella discussions should always take place in a Social Group so that school-wide and grade-wide announcements from PTA such as this remain high signal, and notifications do not become overwhelming).

Thank you for all your generous contributions to our campus! We appreciate you and all the many ways you show up for our Kealing Community.
