Eagle Way Winners- September
Kindergarten News
The Kindergarten welcomed Fall with a study of a favorite American Folk hero, Johnny Appleseeed, and the life cycle of an apple tree! Apple taste testing allowed us to compare the many different varieties of apples and sort, count, and graph our favorites. We labeled parts of the apple to create a diagram. The kindergarten children have become fast friends and love lunch and recess! Their afternoon rotation schedule allows them time to work in small groups with their teachers on math, reading, and handwriting. Lots of learning is happening here! :)
First Grade News
3rd Grade State Testing
Our third-grade students will be taking their first attempt at the Ohio Reading Assessment on Tuesday, the 18th, and Wednesday the 19th. The state ELA test is broken into 2- 90 minute sections and we take one section each day with make-ups needing to be completed within the 5-day window of the 1st day of testing.
Our third graders will also take reading and math tests in the spring. Students have to meet requirements set up by the state of the reading test in order to move on to fourth grade.

Third Grade Reading Guarantee 2022-2023 Promotion Score
State law requires the State Board of Education to annually increase the promotion score on Ohio’s State Test for grade 3 English language arts until it reaches proficiency for the 2024-2025 school year. Accordingly, the State Board voted to raise the promotion score for grade 3 English language arts to 685 for the 2022-2023 school year. Any student who scores 685 or higher on the English language arts scaled score will be eligible for promotion to fourth grade at the end of the 2022-2023 school year.
In addition, the Ohio Department of Education has set the reading subscore alternative assessment score for Ohio’s State Test for grade 3 English language arts test at 47 for the 2022-2023 school year. Any student who scores 47 or higher on the reading subscore will be eligible for promotion to fourth grade at the end of the 2022-2023 school year, even if the student scores below 685 on Ohio’s State Test for grade 3 English language arts.
"Positively Defrightening" Halloween Parade and Activities
Students will then return to school for their lunch and recess. After lunch and recess, the grades will have time in the afternoon to do different Halloween activities as well as go to their encore for a shortened amount of time. Classes will have their afternoon parties or treat throughout the afternoon, so there won't be an end-of-day party like in the past, but more of activities throughout the day. If parents want to send in a treat, that is fine, but that is not needed as many businesses will be providing treats.
The plan is for the parade around the track to start at 10, so please be parked and in the seats by then. With the football team hopefully having a home playoff game that night, we need to stay off the field as it will be painted for the game. We will only be walking around the track and using the home stands for parents.
If it looks like we will have poor weather, the raindate will be Monday, Oct. 31st at 10:00 with the parties and activities on that Monday. If Friday's parade and party are canceled because of the weather, the entire day is normal and we will move all activities to the following Monday.
While we want everyone to enjoy the variety of costumes that will be on display, please do not send in parts of costumes that look like weapons, like knives, guns, or anything else that would not be normally appropriate for school. I apologize for the inconvenience of this but with school safety, we need to align with safety rules.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
We will have a 1-hour early dismissal on the 9th and 10th and have conferences from 3:30 until 8:00. On Friday, the 11th, we will have conferences from 8:00 until 12:00.
If you have questions, please contact your teacher to set up a conference.
