Pilgrims on the Way of Truth

What a week! Even though we only had four school days, we certainly packed in the activities! Both the Boys and Girls Basketball teams kept us cheering all week long, and tonight's Senior Night for Wrestling is already a packed "must-see" event! We also hosted our first ACT Practice Session this week in the library (stay tuned for the sign up for next month's session!) The Book Drive was a HUGE success as we gathered up hundreds of wonderful books to share with the Ronald McDonald House! Our Guidance department is starting to visit all Junior English classes to share the PSAT test results, as well as hand out registration information for the April ACT test session hosted here at Marian Central.

Today, many of our theology classes were able to live-stream the March for Life event that is taking place in Washington, D.C. Our very own Pro-Life Club commemorated this event as well by creating a "Wall of Remembrance," using crosses to represent all the precious lives destroyed by abortion every year. We cherish all life, and pray most ardently for the protection of all unborn children. We could not be more honored to have so many students who have dedicated their efforts to this cause, and we wish all who are attending March for Life strength in knowing our prayers carry them throughout their journey.

And we are just getting started! As you'll see below, Marian Central is truly the hub of many wonderful activities in the coming weeks! Tomorrow (Saturday) we are hosting the Great Lakes Fencing Tournament here at Marian! We also are rooting for our Dance team as they compete in their 1A Sectionals at Sycamore High School. We also have FIVE students who have earned positions performing in the 42nd Annual McHenry County Honors Band concert tomorrow at 2:00 pm at Woodstock North High School. Our very own Mr. Rome has also been given the esteemed honor to conduct this county-wide band in the National Anthem - a special honor recognizing and celebrating his upcoming retirement at the end of this school year.

We are absolutely blessed to host Chris Stefanik this week for his acclaimed ReBoot tour! Also - if you're still working on cleaning out your closets as part of your New Year's resolution - we will be hosting a COAT DRIVE in the coming Catholic Schools' Week!

Finally, ticket sales for the Winter Dance will go on sale this coming week during all lunch periods. Please encourage your student to purchase tickets early in the week to avoid the inevitable long lines Thursday!

We hope this newsletter finds you all well, and we wish you a wonderful weekend!

A Note about Food Deliveries to the School Office...

We understand the occasional need to order Jimmy John's when a lunch is forgotten, but we are starting to receive in TOO MANY orders during the lunch hours. We do not want to have to deny this entirely, so please SPEAK to your student about habitual orders. The office is an extremely hectic place, especially during the lunch hours. Every time we "buzz" delivery people into our building, that is one more visitor we must monitor and track. Please keep our school safe and REDUCE the food orders that are coming in!

Winter Dance 7:30 pm - 10:30 pm Jan. 27th

Tickets will go on sale this week, Monday - Thursday, in the school office for $10.00 each. Students who wish to bring a non-Marian date MUST have a completed Date Request Form (copies have been/are available in the school office) at the time of ticket purchase. All students must also be prepared to share (at ticket purchase) an EMERGENCY CONTACT PHONE # that we can have on hand during the dance.

Please know that we do not allow students to arrive to the dance later than 8:15 pm, and we require all students to sign out if they choose to leave prior to 10:00 pm. Students who enter may not leave/return to the dance at any time. Please know your student's plans for the evening. We also ask that NO BAGS be brought into the dance. We reserve the right to check any purses, pockets, or administer breathalyzer testing on students. Our goal is to keep all of our students safe at all times, and we truly appreciate your support in these efforts.

Finally, please see our dress code guidelines (below) and make sure that your student's selections are appropriate for our event. Thank you!

Come Join the MCCHS Parent Association!

Tickets are available for purchase in the Guidance Office - so come get yours today and join us on January 24th for this life-changing event in Landers Pavilion!

Attention JUNIOR PARENTS: PSAT/ACT Information!

Our AMAZING Guidance team is in the process of visiting all the Juniors during their English classes today and Monday to present PSAT results (taken in October 2017), and to talk about registering for the April 2018 ACT testing session that is offered here at Marian Central.

Junior students should be bringing home their paper PSAT results along with a power point explaining the scores. Please look over that information and do not hesitate to call the student's counselor with any questions. More information regarding scores and access to PSAT online scores is available at:

In addition, we are linking you to the ACT Registration Information sheet that is being handed out to all Juniors to have when registering for the ACT. Watch the deadlines for ACT registration, as those come up quickly and we cannot guarantee spaces at Marian Central for our students. Any student (from any school) may select Marian Central as their testing location, as we are a designated testing site through ACT.

As we flip the page on the calendar, it's only natural to begin thinking about all the wonderful events that we have to look forward to in the second semester! Two such events are our WINTER FORMAL and, of course, PROM.

WINTER SEMI-FORMAL (Jan. 27th) Our young ladies typically wear cocktail length dresses. PLEASE help your daughter select a length that is appropriate! It's very important that the hemline is no higher than mid-thigh. Young men wear suit/tie - but often forego the suit-coat.

PROM -FORMAL (April 27th - Juniors and Seniors only) Gowns and Tuxedos are the typical attire for this event. Again, with dresses, since there are so many selections out there - it is important that our school's conservative attire is respected.

Society (and the media) may be tempting our young men and women to dress and behave far beyond their age - but we have to do our best to protect the age they actually are. Thank you for always partnering with us in this effort to prepare them for adulthood, while still honoring and protecting their age.

We hope you find this Semi/Formal Dress Guideline helpful!
