Background

Baumrind was born into a Jewish community in New York City she was the first of two daughters of Hyman and Mollie Blumberg. She completed her B.A. in Psychology and Philosophy at Hunter Collage in 1948, and her M.A. and Ph.D. in Psychology at the University of California, Berkley.

Theories

Diana theory includes authoritarian, authoritative, and permissive. Her theorist type is social/ emotional.

Real Life Expample

Authoritative: If a child got into a fight with another child, the parent would ground the child for his/her actions.


Authoritarian: If a child talked back to the parent, the parent would spank the kid and maybe even have some verbal abuse.


Permissive: If a child stole candy the parent would let it roll off their shoulders and act like it was no big deal.
