What is Autism?

By: Michele Phipps

Who does it affect and how?

Autism is a condition that is more common in men, but women are affected almost as much. Autism usually occurs in people 2-60, so not many people are born with this condition. It affects an average of 200k to 3 million people each year. Symptoms include:

  • trouble being social or communicating
  • obsessiveness
  • repeating actions
  • sensitivity
  • compulsive movements
  • screaming
  • etc.

How many types of autism are there, and how do you treat them?

There are any types of autism, and I have listed them below.

  • behavioral
  • cognitive
  • speech
  • psychological
  • developmental
  • muscular
Autism can not be cured, but it can be treated. Common treatments are Risperidone and Quetiapine.

Over all....

To be honest, I didn't know much about autism when I started researching it. But, now I know how seriously this can affect a persons life. There is a cause that I looked up, it's called Autism Speaks, and it's a non-profit organization to raise money for treatments and maybe a cure for autism. I'm going to try to donate, and if you want to along with me, click the button below to go to their website.

Go to Mayoclinic.org to learn even MORE about autism. That's where I got my information from.
