Last call for volunteers

The Town of Sunnyvale is seek two volunteers to help the City of Mesquite, Balch Springs, and the Town of Sunnyvale conduct the annual Point-In-Time Count (PIT Count). The PIT Count determines the number of sheltered and un-sheltered homeless individuals and families in the area.


The count will take place on Thursday, Feb. 24, 2022, from 6 p.m. to midnight. Volunteers will check in at Family Cathedral of Praise, 790 Windbell Cr., Mesquite, TX 75149. Must be 18+ to attend. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is asking that volunteers either be vaccinated or have a negative test within 48 hours.

Upcoming CERT opportunity

EastTex CERT is sponsored by the Rockwall County Office of Emergency Management, and is an all-volunteer organization that helps local law enforcement, fire, and emergency management when disasters strike, missing person searches, and public event support. EastTex CERT has over 200 active members and serves Rockwall, Hunt, Kaufman, Collin, and Van Zandt Counties and the Town of Sunnyvale.


The next CERT class will be held on Feb. 12 and Feb. 19 in Rockwall. You must sign up for both days if you are a new member. If you attended the first CERT class in Sunnyvale (or elsewhere) and need to finish your second class, you may finish the second class in Rockwall on Feb. 19.


This is a FREE two-day class that will teach you many preparedness tips to help protect your family as well as the basic skills needed by all EastTex Regional CERT members. Although not required, you can choose to be an active member of the deployment team and be put on the call-out list for emergencies. The class is available to those age 14 and over and all volunteers must go through a criminal background check. *You must be 18 to join the active call-out team.

Show the Library some love!

February is "Love your Library" month!


The Friends of the Sunnyvale Public Library is celebrating in many ways!


  • A jar of candy is set up at the Doris Padgett Public Library. Swing by the Library to guess how many candies are in the jar. The winner of the correct guess will win the jar of candy.


  • Write a note letting the Library know know why you love them. All notes will be given to the Library.


Additionally, FOSPL will be giving away pencils and bookmarks during the month of February.
