Our Shared Drive (S Drive) and Leaving Digital Files for Substitutes
if you have files that you need to share over an extended period of time, Google is a much better solution! We do not have a space limit on Google, while we are definitely limited on our S drive space. Plus, anyone on campus could come along and accidentally delete your stuff! BOO.
Below are some quick Do's and Don't's for the Share Drive.
Did you Know? Large Print, Resizing Documents
Tool of the Week- Google Forms for Quizzes
When you tell Forms that your new form is a quiz, forms will now grade the multiple choice responses for you. You can give students their scores immediately or you can wait and release the scores when you are ready. Releasing the scores generates an email to each student with his or her grade. You can also add feedback to each question both for a correct choice and an incorrect choice. You assign a point value to each question and it will give you a grade (or leave the point values as 1 and it will tell you how many each student got right). The first time I tried making a quiz, I lost track of how many questions I had written, so I figured out that I should probably just start writing each one with a number. (for example, 1. What are the primary colors?) This is weird though if you choose to shuffle the question order for each student, which is another cool feature. You can also choose whether or not to show students the correct answer at all and whether or not to show students which question they missed. I advise turning off the option for students to send themselves a copy of their responses :)
I like that you can easily see a graph of response choices for each question. That makes it easy to see what the most popular distractor was and easy to see where kids are struggling most. You can use an add-on called Form Limiter to turn off form submissions at a certain date or time to be sure everyone completes the assessment on time (Thank you Mr. Stewart for that gem!)
Take my sample quiz here and see instant feedback! You will notice that the questions are out of order since I shuffled them for each person :)
I lied when I told you I would tackle Flubaroo this week- not enough time. But I am investigating some formulas that might make standards based grading more possible, and I will let you know what I figure out! Meanwhile, be sure you leave your feedback for me below so I know what features to highlight as I am reviewing assessment tools!
