Moving Out and Moving In:

We will be keeping empty boxes on Debbie Myers hallway, help yourself OR ask Chris for boxes (limited number per person).

We are very excited about our changes for next year and we want our moving to be as easy as possible. Also we have our transfer teachers that will be moving in. In order to prevent all of you to have to stay longer than May 27 to move, we will begin our moving process the week of 23rd after-school of course. Additionally, we want to allow our transfer teachers to move in their things from their schools without having to store it at home for the summer.

With that said…if you have someone moving into your room, please have a corner ready beginning after-school on May 23rd for the person moving into your room. We want all movers to have the opportunity to get their things moved in by May 27. Please have all of your items in boxes and consolidated the best of your ability if you are moving into another classroom.

We will still have teaching and learning going on until May 25, so please be mindful and considerate to the current teacher of the room. Please contact and collaborate with the teacher moving into your room to make it a smooth transition. Thanks for your cooperation and let us know if you have questions or concerns.

Teachers should remove all energy users:  space heaters, plug in air freshners-major fire hazard, lamps, etc


The school is open over the summer! Yes, I said it, “THE SCHOOL IS OPEN OVER THE SUMMER!”

Keith, our head custodian has approved to have the building open most of the summer for any of you that like to get ahead and organized in a stress free environment. Thanks Keith!

Here are the hours beginning June 13:

  • Monday and Tuesday: 8-12
  • Wednesday and Thursday: 11:30-3:30

We just ask that the building is closed to certified staff: June 6-10, so the custodians can do their magic. (Unless you are invited for summer school/PBL training)

**If your room is being used for summer school (3rd grade this year), you will have access to your room after June 30th and you can still work on other things around the building.

We considered your feedback…

PLEASE consider combining Math Night and Literacy Night next year leaving students the opportunity to enjoy Fine Arts Night separately. There can still be 2 required nights rather than three this way.

The BUILT team discussed this comment and do not want three nights. Combining Curriculum/Math & Literacy/Art creates two events. They do not want to change what has already been highly voted on (71% of the staff).

I would love to fill out an end of the year feedback form on the Admin team. I know we did this is the beginning of the year, but I feel this feedback would be powerful as we prepare to move in to next year. Can these forms be made available to those of us who would like to fill them out?

You will have two opportunities to give feedback:

  • May 19: Review perception survey (face to face feedback to Pam and administrator)
  • Anonymous survey to go directly to the administrator for growth or acknowledgement of strength

Can we get rid of furniture in our room we don't use?

See the attached grade level lists of furniture. If you have something in room not on the required list, please let your grade chair know and send one compiled list to Pam.

The end of the year is near and our students want you at their side. The closer we get to the end of the year, the harder it is to find subs. Please remember your final attendance will be a reflection on your RBES. Your goal is 97%; present 184 days! What a great profession, coming to work 190 days out of 365. OUTSTANDING job! Second year that Bethesda conducted an on-line Kindergarten Registration and it was a HUGE success. We successfully registered 77 children for our 2016-2017 Kindergarten classes and we now have 66 students (including out-of-area) signed up for the Kindergarten DLI classes. . Thanks to EVERYONE (teachers, students, custodians, clerical, administrators, and parents) for flexibility with class changes, coverage, cancellations, job sharing, set up, additional duties, etc. It would not have gone well had it not been for all of you. Please know your help and support were greatly appreciated!!!!! :o)

State Board of Education waives promotion/retention requirements for 2016 Georgia Milestones End of Grade tests

May 5, 2016 -- The State Board of Education today granted a waiver of promotion, placement, and retention requirements tied to the 2016 administration of the Georgia Milestones End of Grade (EOG) tests.

During this year's administration of the Georgia Milestones EOG tests, some local school districts reported technology-related interruptions of online testing. While some of these events were short-term and quickly resolved, with minimal impact on student experiences, others required more extensive technical support. The GaDOE believes that further analysis of the possible impacts of these interruptions is warranted prior to the release of student scores, given the stakes involved for students.

"I am committed to a responsible approach to accountability that ensures public trust in the process. Given the technology issues experienced by some students during the online administration of the Georgia Milestones EOGs, we believe it is best to proceed with caution when it comes to basing promotion, placement and retention on the outcome of the tests," State School Superintendent Richard Woods said. "While many districts tested online without a major incident, in the interests of our students, we asked the State Board of Education for a waiver of the promotion, placement and retention portion of the rule."

State law requires that students in grade three earn an At/Above Grade Level designation in reading to be promoted to fourth grade. In grades five and eight, state law requires that students earn an At/Above Grade Level designation in reading, as well as score in the Developing Learner achievement level or above in mathematics to be promoted to the next grade. These are the promotion, placement, and retention requirements being waived for the 2016 EOG administration. Some local school systems have additional promotion criteria, and this waiver will not preclude school districts from applying local policies and protocols for promotion and retention decisions for individual students.

Pending the approval of the Educator Effectiveness Committee, student growth will be held harmless for the Teacher Keys Effectiveness System (TKES)/Leader Keys Effectiveness System (LKES) this year, and will not count next year with the revised evaluation system. The Teacher Assessment on Performance Standards (TAPS) component of the TKES and the Leader Assessment on Performance Standards (LAPS) component of the LKES will continue to be the sole measure used to determine the performance rating of teachers of record and leaders reported by employing school systems and charter schools to the GaPSC for certification purposes.

This week was Cafeteria Appreciation Week and next week is Custodian Appreciation Week. Please take some time next week to recognize our our cafeteria ladies - (Betty Jo, Kellie, Elisabete, Maria, Elva, Atifa, Jennifer, Debra, Elva, Stacy, Tigist, Vanessa, Chanesia and Josephine) and our custodians - (Keith, Hajrusa, Edita, Nezir and Jurnaul) for all of their hard work and dedication to our school!!

SAVE THE DATE: Teaching and Learning Pre-Conference and Conference

Please mark your calendars for the second annual GCPS Teaching and Learning Conference! This year, the conference will take place at the ISC on Thursday, June 16 and Friday, June 17 from 8 AM - 4 PM at the J. Alvin Wilbanks Instructional Support Center. Several departments will offer pre-conference sessions on Wednesday, June 15 at various locations throughout the district. More details will come in February.
