The 1st and 2nd Amendments

The 1st Amendment: Freedom To The People

Freedom of Speech:

Freedom of Speech is that people have the right to say what they want to say. This was involved in history because when the founding fathers were writing the Constitution they were in hiding because if a person for England heard what they were doing they would be put in jail for treason. I think this a good amendment because you have the right to say what you want and you know that you cannot get in trouble for saying that. This amendment is used currently used when someone is talking to someone else and telling them what they believe in.

Freedom of Religion:

Freedom of Religion is that someone can have the right to believe in what their religion believes in. This was involved in history because when people for other countries came to America they brought their religion with them. This amendment is currently used because when people come to America they bring their religion with them and they start new cultures that many people believe in and respect. I think freedom of religion is a good thing because people can believe in what religion they want to.

Freedom of the Press:

Freedom of the Press is that the press has the right to publish what they want. This is involved in history because when the press were writing news stories, they were not allowed to say anything bad about the king or someone that has a high position. This amendment is currently used because when people were voting, in the newspaper it said who to vote for based on what the writer believes in. I think freedom of the press is a good thing because the press can write what they think is needed to be written.

Freedom to Assemble:

Freedom to Assemble is that people can assemble together and combine their own ideas. This historical example is just like freedom of speech because the colonists where writing the Constitution they were in hiding because if someone heard them they would be convicted for treason. A simple example of freedom to assemble would just be having a birthday party because people are getting together. I think freedom of press is a good thing because the press can publish very important information that can effect people and their jobs, home, or family.

Right to Petition:

Right to Petition is that people can express their own ideas by petitioning and telling people what they think. A historical example of right to petition is that when the king created all of his acts the colonists didn't like that so they petitioned so that they could get what they want. A current use of right to petition is that when someone is getting executed people would petition because they do not think that execution is right. I think right to petition is a good thing because people can express their own ideas.

Original Text From the Constitution:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people to peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

The 2nd Amendment: The Right To Bear Arms

The Right To Bear Arms means that anyone can have a gun to protect themselves. A historical example of having the right to bear arms is that many people kept guns in their house to protect their families from the British soldiers. A current use of the right to bear arms is that people own guns to protect themselves and for fun. I am against the right to bear arms because people do not use the gun for protect or fun always, they go murder people for no reason because they think it is fun, so I am against the 2nd Amendment.

Original Text From The Constitution:

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
