Village Family News BLAST OFF!
May 17th-21st
Monday Message:
Return to Fall 2021:
Please share the news! We are planning to return to school this Fall with gusto! Our plan is to return in the Fall, full time, 5 days a week, while following local COVID-19 protocols (ie: masks). We will have more updates from the state and San Diego Health approx. June 15, early July 4th and again in August, defining the details of the return.
2021-2022 Registration: Opened May 10th
More Information will be coming out shortly regarding student registration for 2020-2021 from the District Office in the CUSD newsletter.
See Registration Link here:
https://coronadousd.net/parents-students/online-registration-for-2021-2022-school-year/
Please complete STEP 1 of the 2 STEP process by May 31st if planning on returning to Village. It is imperative for our numbers and staffing! Spread the word!
Re-enrollment:
Re-enrollment with Step 1 of the enrollment process will indicate that your family is intending to return Fall 2021.
Our goal is to finalize enrollment numbers by May 31st so that we can determine grade level staffing, classroom needs, curricular needs and balanced classes. Your communication regarding enrollment for this upcoming year is paramount for Village due to variances in enrollment this year.
Parents: Please complete STEP 1 of the Fall enrollment process by May 31st.
**If you know someone who is not currently enrolled in CUSD, but is planning to enroll in the Fall, please spread the word! Any student who has previously attended school in CUSD is considered a **Returning Student** for enrollment purposes and not a "New Student".
For Those NOT Returning:
We will be sending out a survey for parents to indicate if they are NOT returning.
If you know your family will not be returning in Fall 2021, please let the office know ASAP.
Summer School RSVPs Needed:
- Village Elementary sent home invitations via email and through the postal service, inviting students to attend Summer School and Extended School Year (if written into their IEP). This invitation is for students who are one year or more behind grade level in ELA or Math or if they have ESY written into their IEP.
- PLEASE RSVP if you received an invitation ASAP. Staffing and professional development is dependent on our number of students who commit to Summer School.
CAASPP:
Let's wish our 5th graders luck as they participate in CAASPP testing all of this week.
Please see full schedule below.
Jog-a-Thon:
Class Party dates will be announced soon.

** We are SO excited for the continuation of this new Village Promotion tradition. We will be making signs, putting up two balloon arches and will have the music, photographer and LOADS of fun. News from District Nurse Joelle Semo:
Students that are required to have a test done to clear them for return to school must have a molecular test done. This test includes the following tests: PCR, RNA, CPCR, and NAA. A rapid ANTIGEN test will not clear a student to return.

To encourage acts of kindness at school and within the community, the NPFH committee is proud to roll out the topic of “Being Kind at Village and Beyond” for the Month of May. We are asking students to either send in a small video or pictures to show their acts of kindness, outside of the school setting. Videos and pictures can be sent to the school counselor at Jennifer.slusher@coronadousd.net and will be posted on our Village Counselor’s website under the No Place for Hate tab.
Ideas for spreading kindness beyond Village are:
With friends:
- saying nice things to each other
- uplifting them when their sad
- taking turns in games
- listening to them
- making them a craft
- making a new friend with someone you don’t know
- if playing at the park, including others that you don’t normally play with
siblings
- helping them with homework
- taking the time to play with them
parents
- washing the dishes or doing chores without being asked to
- saying something sweet to them
- making a card to show your appreciation
community
- picking up trash in the street
- holding the door for someone when entering or leaving a building
- helping someone with groceries to their car
- greeting people that you don’t know

ART FORM DESCRIPTION: THEATRE
“djfbsug sefweif” That’s gibberish for “Welcome Friends!” We will be working with our own made up language as we create it on the spot! Have no fear if you have never heard of ‘gibberish.” Gibberish is an exercise where we create a non-sensical language as we go, and then use it to hold conversations, conduct interviews and create stories. One participant will speak / make up language while another translates in real time! This very easy entry into theatre improvisation will have you chatting away like a pro in no time. A fast paced and fun exercise for families the giggles and excitement are sure to please. Some exercises that we will explore are Gibberish Interview- a moderator asks a gibberish speaker about themselves and then translates for the rest of the group, and Gibberish Teacher, where a gibberish expert teaches us how to do something while an interpreter translates the directions into english. Join us for some great family fun!!
