MASC/MASS Joint Conference
Conference
Dr. Abeyta presented on a panel at the MASC/MASS joint conference this week. The panel was Entry Planning for Equity-focused leaders. School Committee members also attended session with Central Office Administrators.
Curriculum & Instruction Leadership Team
District Leadership Team Examines Close Reading & Dialogic Reasoning in Math
The CPS DLT met on Wednesday to dive into the topic of Close Reading & Dialogic Reasoning in Math! Led by the CPS Instructional Leadership Team, district leaders collaborated together on how the strategies of Close Reading & Dialogic Reasoning apply to mathematics. Administrators worked collaboratively to solve a 10th-grade level math problem, and needed to explain their work. Sessions like these ensure our schools are providing high quality instruction to Chelsea students.
New Coaches PD Session
New coaches to the district met Friday morning to engage in the following goals related to Coaching For Equity. Goals of the session involved: understanding Chelsea’s recent educational context: where we’ve been, where we are, and where we’re going in order to connect to our current work, connecting our work as a coach/instructional leader as part of the process to disrupt systemic inequities for all students by engaging in text based discussion on the role of assumptions, grounding ourselves in our purpose by exploring our WHY.
Human Resources Updates
The District held their Mentor Meeting at CHS on Tuesday. HR Director Christine Lee and Assistant HR Director Joanne Bell hosted a PD on Belonging for our new teachers and mentors. CHS Teacher Gena Restiano spoke at the end.

Chelsea Winter Athletics
8th Annual J. Barry Dwyer Red Devil Turkey Trot
On November 19th the Chelsea High School Track Team will be hosting it's annual Turkey Trot Event. There will be a 5K run, free kid's run, Live DJ, and Post-Race Party! All benefits will go towards the J. Barry Dwyer Memorial Scholarship in honor of the late Coach Barry!
CPS College and Career Fair Set for November 18
Pumpkin Day at the ELC
Students and staff wore orange and black and enjoyed a Pumpkin Party in their classrooms.
Fabulous Fun Friday at the ELC
Miss Stacey’s friends brought a stuffed animal for Fabulous Fun Friday and got to read with them in class.
How To Writing
Students in 1st grade at the ELC have been working on "How To Writing". This week we have been working on the steps on how to make musical shakers. For the ELC’s first Fabulous Fun Friday students in 239 made their own musical shakers with Ms. Jenn, Ms. Andrea & Mrs. Frometa.
Mock Elections - Learning about the Democratic Process!
Kelly School 3rd graders participated in a mock election this week, learning about the candidates and issues that adult voters will face on the ballot during Tuesday’s state elections. They learned a lot about our country’s democratic process — and encourage all adults who can vote to do so!
Classes of the Month!
Our two Classes of the Month are Sr. Gómez and Mrs. Ross’s 5th grade classes. As part of that honor, they welcomed guest speakers from the Chelsea Rotary Club! Mr. Juan Gallego shared some of his inspiring personal story and described the Rotary Club’s service work to help build wells and health clinics in remote regions of his native Colombia. Mr. Brian Hatleberg presented about money as a medium of exchange and stored value, letting scholars examine a variety of historical coins and currency — and play “Two Truths and a Lie, Principal Lineweaver Edition” (since as Principal Lineweaver’s husband he knows some funny stories!). Students and teachers enjoyed this chance to learn a little bit beyond the curriculum from some respected adults in the community. Thank you Chelsea Rotary Club!
Popcorn Experts
Scholars from 311 became popcorn experts by reading lots of texts!! After reading and learning all about popcorn we celebrated with a popcorn day. Just ask any of us what we learned.
Coffee Hour at the Hooks
Hooks Families joined Family Liaison Johnny for our monthly coffee hour. We got to know each other some more and engaged in great conversations. We had a great time and their smiles say it all!
School Meeting at the Sokolowski!
Students and staff gathered on Friday afternoon to end the week with a school meeting! It was a special gathering with School Committee member Jeannette Velez being recognized with a Personal Best Award. Red Triangles awards were also given out to students to celebrate the end of a strong week for these Sharks!
Ways to Make Sunshine
Over the weekend, Renée Watson, author of Ways to Make Sunshine, spoke on a panel about Self Image in Middle Grade Novels at the Boston Book Festival. One of Sokolowski's Reading Specialists got to speak with her; Ms. Watson was excited to learn that all of the fourth graders at the Sokolowski start the year by reading her book!
Spirit Week at the Browne
The Browne Middle School had an amazing Spirit Week. From Character day to Pijama day! We had so much fun with our students.
Cradles to Crayons
On November 2nd 11 students from the Williams school complex served some community service with our outreach workers Kiara Webb and Cesar Castro. The students will be going to Cradles 2 Crayons every month. Cradles 2 Crayons provide children from birth through age 12 with the everyday essentials they need to thrive — at home, at school, and at play. Their vision is a future free of childhood poverty. The organization offers meaningful volunteer experiences for people of all ages and backgrounds who want to engage in our work, and by communicating clearly about the impact of their support.
Halloween Trip to Salem
Educators from the Clark Avenue Middle School took a pre-Halloween trip up to Salem, to take a private tour with fellow teacher, Beth Crowley, also the owner and guide of Witch City Walking Tours. The group had a fun time exploring this nearly 400-year old city, getting spooked authentic ghostly tales, and visiting historical sites.
ELA Cafe
7th graders at the WSTA were Tasting Critics this week in ELA at the "ELA Cafe". They "tasted" different graphic novels and ranked them using various criteria.
Team Building
The 6, 7, and 8th grade student council did a small group team building challenge where they had to get a colored pencil from the ground to a desk using only two other pencils.
Biolab work
Mrs.Beiringers 5th grade students participate in a photosynthesis lab with the help of Biolab.
Winter Clothing Drive
5th grade Student Council members started planning the school's first Winter Clothing Drive which will be donated to La Colaborativa. They made paper and online posters to hang around the school. The clothing drive starts Monday November 7th and goes until Friday December 2nd.
Spirit Week at WSTA
This week was spirit week at WSTA, teachers and students dressed up all week to enjoy the festivities.

Glow day!! a great way to end spirit week in Ms.Rodriguez 8th grade math class.
CHS Cantare Upcoming Performance
The CHS Cantare, Concert Band, and Orchestra will be performing at the Chelsea Soldiers’ Home on Thursday, November 10 in honor of our veterans. The ceremony will begin at 11 am in the Chapel at the Soldiers’ Home. The general public is invited to this event, but please be advised that there is currently a mask-mandate for visitors to the Soldiers’ Home.
High School Halloween Dance
CHS students and staff enjoyed a ghoulish night at their Halloween dance last week.
TRiO Ambassadors at CHS
TRiO Ambassadors at CHS engaged in a workshop where students had an opportunity to review and discuss interview questions using Jenga!
College Tuesdays at CHS
The high school counselors have started hosting College Tuesdays for students to meet with college reps weekly in a college fair format. This past Tuesday, the counselors hosted reps from 9 different colleges.
Attendance Meeting on Monday
All students are invited to the Attendance Policy Meeting on Monday after school in the library. Students will be able to speak with school administrators about the status of the policy review process

MBTA Youth Passes
GreenRoots is supporting Chelsea youth and young adults by promoting the use of MBTA Youth Passes.
The Youth Pass Program offers reduced fares on the MBTA to eligible young adults. Youth Pass CharlieCards can be loaded with cash value for roughly 50% reduced one-way fares, or $30 monthly LinkPasses for unlimited bus, subway, and Fairmount Line Zone 1A travel. You can also use your card for reduced one-way fares on Commuter Rail and ferry.
In order to be eligible for the Youth Pass, the following criteria need to be met:
· You are a Chelsea resident.
You are between 18 and 25 and are enrolled in a Youth Pass partner program, such as MassHealth, SNAP, Year Up, Roca, public housing, etc.
You are between 12 and 17 and are unable to get a Student CharlieCard through your middle or high school.
Visit the MBTA’s website for the program’s eligibility criteria, and full list of Youth Pass partner programs and accepted documents in English, Spanish, Haitian Creole, Cape Verdean, Mandarin, Cantonese, Portuguese, or Vietnamese.

Some new youth programs are Snowboarding with the Chill Foundation, MA Sports Leagues, The Home of Bubble Soccer, YMCA of Greater Boston Leaders Club and Y Achievers, and Self-Exploration Through Art.
Registration begins Tuesday, September 13 at 4 pm.
