Tennessee State Museum- New Exhibit
The new Tennessee State Museum opened in its new, state-of-the-art location on October 4, 2018. The museum is located at 1000 Rosa Parks Blvd., Nashville, TN 37208 (next to the Bicenntenniel Mall). Permanent exhibitions include: Tennessee Time Tunnel, Forging a Nation, Tennessee Transforms, Natural History, First Peoples, The Civil War and Reconstruction, and Change and Challenge. There are several rotating exhibitions, as well. The museum offers many opportunities for educational engagement including: field trips, professional development, digital learning, and traveling trunks.
Visit https://tnmuseum.org/ for more information. Beginning March 27 and running through March 28, 2021 a new exhibition focused on the story of women's suffrage in Tennessee will open: RATIFIED! This exhibition will use artifacts, documents, large-scale graphics, videos, interactive elements and public programming to share the stories of the Tennesseans who came to have decisive roles in American women's struggle to gain voting rights.
Virtual Field Trips
Many of us would love to be able to take our students to every historic site mentioned in our curricula, but unfortunately, that's not possible. Sometimes, it's difficult to take a field trip to even local historic sites; however, virtual field trips are a great option that can be incorporated into lessons and activities to provide an opportunity for students to visit places they normally would only read about. Here is a list of engaging virtual field trips to check out. Click on the site name below to go directly to the virtual tour:
